Jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali, who came under attack after her tweets related to Bollywood actor Salman Khan's 2002 hit-and-run case were considered demeaning towards the homeless, has offered an "unconditional" apology.

Ali shared a series of tweets on micro-blogging website Twitter on Friday to apologise.

She wrote: "I realise the homeless have no place to go to and so we need to be more sympathetic to them... My concern is genuine one, bec there will be many innocent ppl in future who will lose their lives 2drunk drivers for sleeping on d footpath... And while drivers will serve time & be free men eventually, the victim would have lost his life nevr coming back bec d system is apathetic."

"And maybe we need to earmark roads where the homeless can sleep peacefully without the fear of being run over, roads that are bylanes... Bec just by turning a blind eye to their plight we are allowing more innocent lives to be lost. Change doesn't happen overnight but maybe we can collectively come up with solutions to make sure that people don't die senselessly."

"For each life is precious, be it anyone. Lives are lives and it is our duty as citizens to protect another life collectively as a society. And so, I would like to offer an UNCONDITIONAL apology for my tweets ref the homeless sleeping on the streets."

Ali's controversial tweets were first shared after Additional Sessions Judge D.W. Deshpande on Wednesday announced the verdict on the case in a packed courtroom here.

She wrote: "The govt should be responsible for housing ppl. If no 1was sleeping on d road in any other country Salman wuld not have driven over anybody... It's like penalising a train driver because someone decided to cross the tracks and got killed in the bargain. #salmankhancase."

Salman, one of the highest paid actors in Bollywood, was convicted and sentenced to five years in jail for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The judge held Salman guilty of rash and negligent driving when he was at the wheel of the Land Cruiser that killed the victim in suburban Bandra in September 2002.

However, The Bombay High Court on Friday suspended the five-year jail sentence, paving the way for him to apply for and seek regular bail.

Accordingly, Salman will not be taken into custody, proving a major relief for the actor who was granted two days' interim bail after his sentencing on Wednesday.

but why didn't he hire salve, if he is so good then he would have won there too or when the going gets tough and he knows he is gonna lose then he doesn't take that case 😉

No matter what, I just can't appreciate him for that particular case. Like never. 😆 Waise, Arnab was shouting that TimesNow brought up the Kamal Khan angle y'day itself ...so is times now as sharp as Salve? 😆

Kamaal was like the most obvious thing, but Prosecutor's argument that because it will be expensive to have him flown down from UK was silly. PPs rely a lot on Police actually to close off the loops.

But agree with Roger, poor guys are underpaid , one of the reasons why Rich guys get away so easily .

LOL that's what happens when law seats are bought with big chunk of money or via special Reservation. You can certainly get in and even pass but too bad can't buy you self good amount of gret matter 😆

Because hardly anyone super popular would dare to defend a terrorist. It backfires IMO. Salman ka case tou is different. It's super weak and such a long time has passed that it's pointless right now. It's like the Jessica Lal case which took literally forever to reach anywhere, that too from intense public and media pressure which obviously won't happen in this case.

He talks about the case only for 10 minutes & then ends up joking around about the parties, his opponent etc. for the next 20 minutes..He is that casual & laidback about the whole thing yet his arguments are rock solid..Am surprised ppl din anticipate this..Not because Salman is a superstar/ the Judiciary is effed up..Simply because well its Harish Salve..And the guy hardly loses 😆

@ krackjack- Haha am busy fangirling over Salve at the moment 😆 I cant get myself to think of anything beyond his awesomeness at this point 😆

I did, he is just bloody brilliant. Very unassuming.
Actually he is a lot like that in real life too,met him once and the guy can charm you with the way he talks. He be the real Superstar. Even with Salman's case he hardly took any time, PP would have been a mess already.

I can fangirl over him too. This when i am not even related to his field.

Yeh dude. Drunk driving can't be excused, but still a homicide. But Sanjay case is disgusting with him being voluntary involved in the death of many. I can't fathom someone like him involved in terrorism. SMH.

Its not just about being underpaid..They hire such pathetic & inefficient guys as PPs that even a simple case where its pretty easy to formulate arguments ends up getting dragged & the accused goes scot-free simply because the PP din have a good case..You don even need a Harish Salve to beat them..They are that bad 😆 If you take 100 criminal cases, 60/ 70 are acquittals..Simply because the PP couldn't prove the case beyond reasonable doubt..And once you are acquitted, its even more tough to overrule the judgment & convict the accused..And you know the worse part? Even if the PP is good, they don bother arguing in these high profile cases..When Jayalalitha appealed for bail, that goddamn PP literally spoke in her favor so she ends up getting a bail 😳😆
