Really great of her to share her experience with the world. Hopefully this talk does give someone the courage to seek help. The doctor was great on it.

It's a good cause, and we need more awareness about mental health. In a country like ours, where mental health is considered a taboo; celebreties who have a greater audience plays a very important role. So in a way hope the cause has a positive effect on people and more awareness is created.
Apart from that where I did my A-Levels from, we used to have a counsellor every year who would speak to us and it was a really good initiative. I mean even work places have medical checks, counselling session, etc. Schools/Work place in India should have such sessions/checks too, it will be really helpful.

What? Her lovers don't have any sweet comments this time around? Only 3 pages of comments I was expecting the same old story-spinning and blind hatred. But with DP there is always a next time I guess

Anywho, commendable job by DP. It's not easy to talk about mental illnesses in front of the world...especially in a country like India. Just reading the interview made me sad. What a brave woman! Glad that she not only had the guts to talk about her Depression but also started a foundation for the same. Good job! Even helping ONE person will make all this worth it.

Thanks for the links.
It's good she spoke about it and her mom and the doctors were there to share her struggle and to tell their experience and the way to deal with it. It's not easy to accept this that too in India where ppl quickly label the sufferer as Paagal or mental.
Hope the foundation helps people in need.

I'm glad I watched the video and happy that Deepika and her mom spoke about this. I have first hand experience with such similar situations where a friend who's going through depression at present and trust me it's no joke. There have been days where he felt like killing himself and now thankfully he's getting better and has resumed working which is a good thing. Even my grandma went through a phase last year and she has recovered thanks to this amazing psychiatrist

First sign of depression is... given a choice of fav activities, U still say no.
Hungry? no.

Wanna go for ride? No.

Wanna watch ur fav sit com? No

Wanna wake up 6 in morning? no. 10 No. 12 No.

The emphasis on the word CHOICE. many ppl do function in society with their regular day to day life.. but they dont enjoy when its comes to their choice of fun of life.

It's actually a serious disease ... that has to do with receptors of the brains.. that gives ud the feelings of pleasure. When receptors r active u feel happy... (be it natural or artificial, sex or drugs, fav food or a movie, intimate moments or being in party).. Those receptors go down as usual and next morning u r as normal. For some ppl, they dont go down and they feel hollow inside, they have to fill that emptiness.

Thats where the depression comes. It has not much to do with bad phase of ur life.. it can strike even when all ur dreams r coming true. But chances r very real when things r goind bad from good in no time.

Depression is when u feel so lonely no matter if how many ppl r around. U keep talking to urself. U dont enjoy outside world. u dont hate anybody but u cant love urself. it makes u feel u r an alien on earth..

Thts when suicidal thoughts come in. thts when u really need a help n talk to some1. NZ have 24/7 suicide help line.. its got very good success ratio. esp. young ppl in the influence of alcohol, drugs, hormones, love, sex, fights, helplessness.. r so prone to commit what they think and one of them is suicide.

Most of us go thru bad phase in life.. we think its depression, its not. Its something that strikes when u r even in good phase of ur life and it stays with u untill u seek for help.

I volunteer for alcoholics in recovery.. most of them r depressed coz alcohol itself in depressant. They drink to feel better and then sleep and then they wake sick and drink again.. in a vicious cycle..

Medication helps.. dedication helps even more.. and meditation help for whole life.

This is the prayer from AA I love.. coz sometimes I have to be there with my buddies.

"God, Grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I can not change

COURAGE to change the things I can

and WISDOM to know the difference.

All the best. Do talk to ur doctor.

Psychology says, depression is often the result of over thinking, our minds create problems that initially didn't exist.
...

She might have felt directionless after reaching to the top. Some people like the chase more than reaching the goal that explains why she choose finding frenny and pinku over salman khan bajragi bhaijaan. Medium budget movies which will not even manage to do 100 crores. Coz she dosnt want to see the fall from top. She would rather be in chase than being on top. You over think when you have fear of loosing something. And the fact is there are already too many compititors for the top slot. N her face is already shrinking , she dosnt look as fresh as she used to look two years back.
