Aamir Khan.

He comes across less as an actor and more of a Sunday school teacher who wants to worshiped as the guiding light to salvation.

True people have always called him an average to above average . He was never given any awards . Certain elitists can make the case that his level of success and his level as a performer do not match up but thats not what is being asked . The question is who is over rated actor . (Rated as a top actor when they are not really that level)

I interpret overrated actor as someone who gets overly praised for acting that is not all that. I look it solely in terms of specific talent and not relative to others' talent.

So based on that I would say SRK. He's constantly praised for being a great actor and I just don't see it. To me he's mediocre at best. The only time he looks natural is when he's enacting a normal situation. His dramatic or tragic scenes and his comedic scenes are always overdone, over acted, hammed up or just plain silly and juvenile.

SRK is a mediocre actor but a great salesman, a great relationship builder, a great brand manager. I never found him overrated because of his sheer genius in creating brand SRK. He's also found the perfect balance between Salman's masses and Aamir's classes.

I can see why he can be overrated as an actor though.

Is this still true though? Looking at movies like HNY and CE and they are extremely massy films and yet so bad in terms of quality that I don't see any class in them. Though I'm SRK will disagree with me lol, at least in terms of his intentions. Which brings me back to my first question. He was able to have the right balance between masses and classes at some point but I don't think he does anymore.

But his movies still make a lot of money and that is due to everything you described above. But he needs to be careful because in some ways he's stuck in the 90s or early 2000s and seems to have a harder time clicking with the today's movie going audience in terms of quality of film. I think JTHJ is a perfect example of that. I think had that movie come out in he 90s it would have been a much bigger hit.

Amitabh Bacchan in a way defines Indian cinema. Eventhough I always thought of Shashi Kapoor as a better actor.
SRK if he wants he can act, it is a different thing that now all he does is makes crap movies. But no one can take it from him that he has made a name for himself, as return_to_hades said he is like a smart business and I think a shrewd one too. He knows his games too well. So he is a good actor who can act. So no he is not overrated, more like directors have still not gotten the best out of him.

Salman Khan is an entertainer, just like SRK if given the right script he can do wonders. And I guess I am the only one who thinks Salman can act IF ONLY he wants to act.

Amir Khan definitely the overrated one, he has the Worship-me-Syndrome. I am the best actor, best human being this is the vibe he gives. And his movies at times are yawn worthy, also never found him as a good actor.
