Saw it and I still think the same. It was definitely a generic statement. I guess, after having watched tons and tons of his interviews, I've now understood how Shah says things/talks, so its easier to decipher what he means. Bollywood has some shitty reporters, tbh. So, I don't expect them to do any analysis or some simple thinking before posting headlines, they just want to grab things from interviews to sensationalize. They are so busy searching for their headlines that they (deliberately) miss out on what's really the case.
I understand the context he was speaking in. But he said "In my next film I'll be playing 17 years old", not "In my next film I could be playing a 17 year old." It looks as if he is giving a real example rather than making a hypothetical statement.
At the end of the day, it's bad English. That's fine. No big deal. Happens to everybody.
Of course, some journalists write complete rubbish. For example, the '17 actors in Rohit Shetty's next film' quote seems to have been plucked out of thin air. 😆
Just my POV. We can agree to disagree. No hard feelings. 😊
