I live in Wisconsin and the only way I have seen horses transported is in a horse trailer. The hatches will be opened for horses to stick their heads out on rural roads. However, on highways or within city limits the hatches are closed. I've never really seen any livestock transported without a livestock trailer in the US. If Texans take their horses on a ride in their flat beds, I'm not aware of it. I wasn't even aware open lorries are available in the US.

This method of transportation for horses is dangerous because it is leaving a naturally skittish animal exposed to its surroundings. There is no protection for their heads that are sticking out in city traffic. There is no separation barrier between horses incase one gets freaked out or falls.

From what I can see, horse can move, enough space, enough light and ventilation for air :)
