Twitter commentary takes the Mickey out of Bollywood's most famous voice

More than Indian batting or Pakistani bowling at Adelaide in a World Cup match that is expected to be watched by over one billion people, the biggest talking point on social media was actor Amitabh Bachchan and his Hindi commentary.

The Bollywood star is on Star Sports, doing Hindi commentary alongside former players Aakash Chopra and Shoaib Akthar, as part of promotional activities for his latest movie Shamitabh that released last weekend.

In the lead-up to the match, various ads had shown commentators speaking into a mic, but the voice was the most famous baritone in the industry, from Bachchan's character in the movie.

Bachchan had reportedly taken tips from veteran commentators Harsha Bhogle, and cricketing legend Kapil Dev. After 45 years in Bollywood, Bachchan's fans expected him to come out firing, but he seems to have misfired from the very first ball.

Twitter had loads of of fun slaying Mr. Bachchan. Good for the star that he was commentating till the 7th over of the first innings of the match.

Amitabh's commentary is worse than Doordarshan.

He was active in dramatics in Sherwood College,his alma mater ..but early in his career when he lived in Calcutta I remember seeing him excel on stage in several impressive performances ..the one that springs to mind immediately is his Henry opposite Vimal Bhagat as Becket 👏 AB's own reminisces of those days are interesting...

"...historic days those for the city ... it was the most happening town of the times ... filled with excitement and activity and buzz ... the acting on stage continued from these theatre stages of the more amateur ..."

"There were these two groups - The Amateurs and the Calcutta Dramatic Club ... the former filled with the executive boxwala aspirants, the latter more British and white ...

We did ours and they did their's ... but in time we mixed ... and the results were quite improved ... most of my stage acting was done with the Amateurs - Jean Paul Satre Crime Passionale, Death of a Salesman, Virginia Woolf, Waiting for Godot, musicals like The Desert Song, and so many others of eminence ... A Street Car named Desire, where I was in charge of the sound effects and the curtain pulling ... done for the the other ... but those times were exceptional ... finishing office and trudging off straight to rehearsals, meeting all the others spending time with them on and off rehearsal ... "

No doubt that AB will at some stage go back where he began ...the maanch 👏

Would just love to see him on stage in Tumahri Amrita with Shabana Azmi ...hopefully in Goa after the Prithvi 😃

Despite the fact that I find him dicey as a human being, I really admire & respect him for the great body of work he's done & continues to do, even at this age despite his weak health. He is a thorough professional & deserves all the accolades.
