The year has been a disaster so far with losses of over 100 crore in just five weeks. The three medium to big films Tevar, Baby and Shamitabh have lost over 75 crore between them while the other 8-10 releases like Alone, Hawaizaada, Dolly Ki Doli have losses of 40 crore plus between. It's unlikely that a year has seen such losses in just over a month.

The losses for Baby are minimal against the budget but it was procured at a heavy premium and that premium is a total loss. Tevar and Shamitabh have seen huge losses. This has been the trend since Diwali with PK being the only exception.

The audience has become very demanding only venturing into theatres for big budget star studded films and this type of film is months away. The only way a success is going to come in the next 2-3 months is either a surprise initial or a well budgeted film with content that can last for 3-4 weeks.

That's a huge loss. So many big budget movies lined up for this year. The distributors must be having sleepless nights.

Baby was distributed and produced by T Series, right? So who procured it for a heavy price?

This is totally normal. Producers are making movie like Hollywood with too many stars. But Hollywood has a worldwide audience, even if domestic earning is bad, overseas has made up so many times... e.g- recent johny depp movies. Indian audience is limited. Hindi is even more limited.
Now, cash crunch is happening.. foxstar is done, reliance is done.. they had fun for a year 😆

What will happen is all indian producers will come to sense and few stars will be out by the end of year because they are not viable. e.g. Arjun, Ayushmann etc
5-10 actors will be left.
Producers should invest 60 crs on Ranbir Kapoor, not Arjun Kapoor... that's the mistake.

Another mistake happening soon--> investing 110- 120 crs on Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh, instead of HR or Khans... you'll all witness it.
I mean a 20 year old veteran Akshay's best movie found it hard to be on the profit side, forget 100 crs. If there were any big releases within 2 weeks, Baby would have flopped.

Population simply don't have money to watch 2 movies a month, tickets costing 200 bucks...it doesn't matter to them how many stars are there in bollywood now... the market hasn't increased proportionally...
Flops will rain this year

The entire financial maths of how movies are being made ie the budget plus money being paid to A listers has to be revaluated . Even if movies like bang bang and even recently baby are doing good business , the cost is so high that their is hardly any profit .
Hindi movies still primarily run on the heroes mass appeal . If an actor like ayushman and imran khan have no mass following then either they shouldnt be doing solo films or the budgets have to be controlled ..

Also this entire strategy of making tickets so expensive is majorly backfiring ...the hindi movie buff during MPK or HAHK used to take pride that they have watched the movie 10-15 times . Who can afford to do that now ...

I think a lot of movies are flopping 'cos studios overpay to buy it outright. Directly related to overpaying stars. Also content has been poor expect for PK and Baby.

Sneaky bas***ds are trying to show baby flopped by clubbing it with other disasters but the fact remains that it trended well and recovered the money. Akshay movies are never sold over priced and recover most of the time and that's the reason he manages to make 4-5 movies a year. Nobody would invest in him if he didnt get them the returns on their investments..

Movies are easily available online or pirated DVDs. Many watch even Khans' festive releases like this only.

Big stars, holiday releases end up attracting audience. It's more of an outing than just watching films or stars.

Other stars and films suffer irrespective of reviews and WOM.

All watch movies but not necessarily in theatres.
