Comedy Nights With Kapil - Thoughts?

Since it is all AIB everywhere, I wanted to focus shift on other shit on Indian television. I find Kapil's show mind numbingly stupid and annoying. Worse they are vile and horribly racist.

They always have a man in drag. First of all, a man dressed as a woman is not funny in it self. It is also grossly offensive to the transgender and cross dressing community.

They always have exaggerated stereotypes about women. Their men in drag emulate annoyingly high pitched voices playing caricatures like a bossy wife, a dumb bimbo, a s**tty bombshell. It is appallingly misogynist.

They constantly make fun of races and ethnic communities. There have been instances of black faces or people of Asian ethnicity talking "ching chong ching". It is highly racist and such racially charged humor is illegal in many places.

Yet this show runs like a dream. People voraciously consumer cross dressing humor, female stereotypes, the worst shockingly racist jokes. Do people even realize how hurtful it is to minority communities? Especially when they suffer discrimination based on these racist stereotypes?

Personally, give me a dirty joke with c**t, dick, and cum rather than something that is transphobic, homophobic, misogynist and racist.

I don't watch indian shows only indian movies With the exception of piya ka ghar and Dus ka dum 😉

One point that I would like to make is... CNWK can be watched with family whereas shows like AIB can not. That's the major reason it receives such high ratings and Kapil is one of the most loved celebrities today.

I used to love it but it's becoming really annoying how Kapil is always ridiculing the female characters. His wife is sooo annoying because she says one sentence...he's also always yelling at the aunt and dadi characters.

I loathe this show now, initially it was ok for a laugh here and there but Kapil's jokes are so kiddish and as you said insulting at times.

My parents watch it regularly and I just don't see the appeal of watching it so rigorously

Sure you cannot watch adult shows with a family. But racism and misogyny aren't family values you want to cherish either. Rather a kid who says "f**k" than one who thinks black face is funny.

I think for me what bothers me the most about the show is the disrespect that Kapil shows to some of the audience members when they ask questions, there's quite a dismissive treatment he gives out to them. I find it strange since he's the one who voluntarily asks the audience if anyone wants to speak with his "guests"

The characters are stuck in a rut. The wife has the least lines in the show, the dadi is stuck giving puppies to everyone, and palak is stuck being the obnoxious neighbor. Sunil Grover's been trying new things other than his Guthie character but unfortunately I don't think its working well.

And I despise the movie promotions. Bring 2 people in to promote a movie, that's okay. But not an entourage (ahem Humshakals, Happy New Year etc)

That is a family show. Nothing vulgar or offensive has ever taken place in the show. Kapil is highly respectful to everyone around and has always taken proper consent of every individual who has been a topic of his jokes. A grandmother addicted to alchohol goes completely with our rich culture. An aunt asking men to come to her bedroom later is perfectly fine to be watched with your family. Calling your wife all kinds of names is absolute the norm of this country. Making men wear women's clothers to fetch laughter is totally not offensive to the transgenders.The cleanest humor possible in this country.
