SRK made some great points about awards in my opinion. Award shows might be rigid but they are certainly important, especially for the newcomers. It showcases their talents and people take notice of them. For bigger stars like Aamir or Salman they might not be important because they are well established but for stars like Varun, Sidharth, Shahid etc they are important. It helps them stay relevant in the industry.

I think the only problem people have is with this statement "I don't think I should be nominated for HNY" because he did accept awards for HNY before. Otherwise this was a pretty interesting interview.

LOL he was more honest about the backstage politics than others who ditch awards have been.

I think his purpose wasn't exactly to diss them. He basically wanted to say that though awards have a lot of issues, it would be very unfair of him, who has gotten a lot of awards, especially in the beginning when they acted as great motivators, to ditch them just because there's more politics involved today (even if he is part of that reason).

Of course timing is suspect and I'm sure he loves the money and the actual awards too, whether they mean something or not. It's important for the not-so-popular people of the industry ...keeps them relevant but motivates them to keep going. Their reactions obviously make it obvious how much the awards mean to them. The repeated belittling of awards is sadly unfair to those who have actually deservingly won and worked hard for it. It's stupid and selfish to be like...well I got my share of awards, so well screw them and the ceremonies now.

PS. I don't believe that he thinks he shouldn't be nominated for HNY.
