Well, I didnnt become HR fan after KNPH.. I saw all the assets of a superstar in making but there was no challenging scenes in it to prove if hez good actor. So I went to see Fiza as a doubter and came out of it as fan... coz this guy acted like veteran in 2nd fiddle role that he had. Karishma was the lead of the film.
The film flopped coz ppl went to watch HR after a long wait since KNPH and "HR mania" phenomenon.. and many left the theatres after interval coz there was hardly any HR in it and it so preachy. Also the subject of Hindu-Muslim riots was too dark compared to KNPH.I think Khalid did justice to both communities by showing its the politicians behind these riots from both sides, not public.Karishma's performance was A-grade.. only the night club song needed to be deleted.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMoIPIwFc7IWatch this Mere Vatan with high volume... its amazing. Some scenes like- HR trying to save the little girl and she dies in his hands and mob wants to kill him for that.. and he kills them in self defence.. Highly charged emotional scene. There r many in 2nd half... till HR asks his sister to kill him b4 the cops kill him.And the movie ends with "NEXT">>>Well, for me the next was MK.. another power packed performance.
@Bold : Exactly my sentiments! I wasnt a fan with KNPH. Thing with me is that if something is really popular all of a sudden, I am critical and judgemental about it initially. I liked him all right in KNPH and as you said he had all qualities of becoming a star : looks, acting, physique, dance... But I was like he is OK, but not that good. He is getting over hyped. But then Fiza happened and he managed to stun me, not just with his acting, but his choice of role too. Yes he acted like a veteran in his second movie. Brought out the angst, confusion and vunerability of a misguided youth with so much conviction. This movie completely won me over. And he follwed it with another ace Mission kashmir.
And I agree with your reasons about film not working too. Hrithik was a phenomenon after KNPH. People expected another commercial movie with a love story, songs and dance, action etc. What they found was stark contrast. A very unglamorous and real movie with a difficult topic like terrorism.Hrithik playing complete opposite of what they attached with him in KNPH. Change was so sudden that people failed to accept it. If KNPH was an average movie instead of a blockbuster, and Hrithik didnt had larger than life image, perhaps he would have been crdited much more for this performance and movie.
