She has done well for herself in terms of opportunities. But she is taking a too much credit based on what she has accomplished already. Her name isn't known as much as other Indian stars in the West. Most American people will still say "Priyanka Chopra, who?" ...her music isn't as famous as she would like us to believe.

But, if her show with ABC works out (and there's a lot of factors that go into that), then it's her best shot at becoming the true global star she wants to be.

And no, the all-American girl is not the Indian brunette. What is she talking about? 😕😆

Kunal Nayar in a very successful The Big Bang Theory. Reshma Shetty in Royal Pains. Archie Punjabi won a freaking Emmy for her role in The Good Wife. Just to name a few more.

For me, I just can't get over how she is trying to push (or perhaps even believes, I wouldn't put it past her) that she now is or has changed the 'quintessential all-American girl.' How naive and ignorant she is to propose such influence in the face of long-standing social constructs.

Well, the first article announcing her deal with ABC falsely claimed that a show has never been built around an artist in the history of American television until her deal with ABC. I think she's too caught up in elevating her own nonexistent celebrity status and influence in the west for her Indian fans and audience. Problem is in the age of digital communication fact checking is not just limited to journalists and the media. I think it's more arrogance than ignorance. In my opinion anyway.

I think she/her PR wants to highlight it's never happened for an Indian, but she makes it sound like she's the only person it's happened for. Either way it's false, Archie Panjabi signed a similar deal with Fox few months ago.

Irrfan Khan is also doing well for himself in HW and he's only getting better opportunities now.

I'm not sure why Priyanka wants to sell herself as an "American" girl lol. Irfan Khan, Tabu, Frieda Pinto do not market themselves as "American" men and women lol! They are non residents working in Hollywood like many other non resident actors! I fail to see Priyanka as an American...because she isn't one and is treated like a priivelaged non resident most likely..for me, she does not represent the core values of the "American" culture. Even second and third generation American Indian actors like Mindy Kaling or Aziz Ansari do not pigeonhole Indians because I think they're aware that Indians come in different shapes, sizes, and colors...they are not just all brunettess 😆

Ive a feeling shes gonna act on ABC the way Kat acts in Bollywood...she sings fine in Hindi but as soon as she starts to sing in English, she sucks. America does have American Indians representing Indians in the entertainment business.

Also to be frank, I don't find Priyanka to adequately represent millions of Indian Americans...I fail to identify with her story and experience.

I did not read this article..but am guessing she's making it seem like she's going to be the first Indian to have a show in America. She said the same thing in one of her interview. And I was like what is she talking about the Mindy Project show is not only star an Indian but doesn't she write the story of the show too? And she might be the producer too. And that Indian actor on the Big Bang theory..which is one of the most popular and most watched show in America.

She's not ignorant..she's being arrogant like someone mentioned.

Her intention isn't to make Indians be more accepted in Hollywood..she's doing this out of her own gain to be popular in Hollywood.

She's going to be just like that on her show which is why I don't think her show will be successful.

She tries to portray herself as this all-American girl who also simultaneously does these weird bollywood poses which is why she looks so fake. Plus that weird giggling thing she does, and that's probably the biggest reason why a mainstream American person has not yet really warmed up to her.

The only thing PC can really bring to the table on broadcast tv is the image of a sexy brown girl, whereas the others like Mindy clearly aren't. (The one girl on Royal Pains is, but not many people watch that show) But that's not the same thing as "all-American girl" that PC keeps spewing...

she was selling the same story during MK. Women empowerment and shit. She also said she wanted more people to know about MK. She didn't care about telling the story of Mary Kom. Truth is she's did the film to gain critical acclaim and awards. That's why she complained on twitter when she didn't win the award she wanted to get. If she was doing the film for people to be educated and know more about MK..the film doing well should have been enough for her but it wasn't.
