@OC: Agreed with the South Films. Her and Vikram had such amazing chemsitry, That's why I love the Tamil version so much. But I mean Vikram is such a good actor, better than Abhi. I sort of wish they never made a Hindi version and just showcased the Tamil version at fil festivals. Eve Prithviraj was so good. And KK is a brilliant adapatation. Probably one of the better Jane Austen adaptation. And she held her own with Tabu in the movie. Speaks volume.

Chokher Bali is my favorite movie of hers. She plays such a flawed, passionate and grey character. I would love to see her doing more characters like that.

But Aish easily wins for me. I think her filmography is highly underrated and very versatile. But Rani's Black is on a different level of amazing. However, I think Rani's legacy is strcitly just that--Black.

@Het: COMPLETELY AGREE. Ash's career graph is very under-rated esp on IF. SO much easier to dismiss her as a priceless face, someone who piggy-backed on her Nefertiti. 😆

That's more like Kat, but definitely not Ash.

CB is my most favourite role of her's too. When I first read CB when I didn't even like Ash,it was her name that popped into my head. Not because of the parallel of the stunning beauty of Ash & Binodini as written by Tagore, but because I just felt that Ash is a lot like Binodini.

Imagine my surprise when I chanced upon an IV of hers during the CB promotions where she said "I identify with certain characters that I've done, but if there is one character that I identify most with, it's Binodini."

It wasn't for effect. You could see she meant what she said.

Yes, I saw that green dress song a few years ago & I was like, whaaa? She doesn't look older than 22-23 there & the only thing that made the song bearable was her dancing. 😆

Totally. I think Ash's filmography pwns Rani's easily. Rani's career is largely unimpressive, except for Black and a couple of other movies. The early part of her career was saddled with those Govinda type movies, but she somehow came to her senses and did decent work between 2003-05, before her career plummeted from '06 onwards with an infinite number of YRF and Dharma movies. That decision hurt her career really badly, and she hasnt recovered from it ever since.

Ash has had ups and downs, but even during her down (b/w 2003-05) she managed to do a Chokher Bali, a Raincoat, a Bride and Prejudice, a Provoked, a Shabd, an Umrao Jaan etc. Some of these films may not have been BO blockbusters, but notice how the choices are so unconventional and varied. She has always strived to be versatile and to bring a different Aishwarya onscreen and she has done well in her endeavours. That is what makes her career graph so compelling and interesting.

Besides, Aishwarya's characters and movies continue to be largely iconic and memorable. People still remember Nandini, Paro, Binodini, Jodhaa Bai, Sofia (speaking of BW only) and that's where I can say she has made an impact as an actress, which Rani failed to.

Rani is the better actress and Aish the better looking. Personality wise they both seem very fake and not genuine at all.

Thanks for posting all those pictures from Iruvar, Kandukondein kandukondein and Jeans. Nostalgia hits. They are easily some of my most favourite movies ever.

What music, what direction, what cinematography, what acting. Gosh! I can go all fangirl-y over these wonderful movies.

I think we should have a thread to discuss all such movies of Mani Ratnam or even Rajeev Menon. I'll go gaga over them. 😆

Speaking of Aish, acting-wise Rani is still the better one but Aish has been a part of many memorable movies and has worked under some of the best directors. 😊
