Hollywood gets a lot of stuff wrong, but it gets a great deal of it right as well. Its fiction yes, but it has its basis in science. The Light-sabers, warp travel, space ships all of it is possible in distant future. I would say we would have our first voyage to the next star system in the next 80-100 years.
I know Kaku, have attended one of his lectures. Was just okay TBH but we got to ask questions later which was fun. If you want to know about universe and stuff in detail, a good way to start is by watching Carl Sagan's and then later Neil Tyson's brilliant series; Cosmos: A Space-time Odyssey.
Those were not photons, photos are light. Anyway its all speculation at this point. For anything to go faster than the speed of light will turn our whole understanding of nature upside down.
As for a vehicle traveling at light speed, well first of all it will require an infinite amount of energy to push it so that speed and as a result will gain infinite mass. Hence the reason you can never go at light speed.
50%, 80%, even 99(theoretically) but never the speed of light. So the light will always be there ahead of you even if by a fraction of second.
HW makes you fool by giving wrong impressions,.. many a times they add colors to make it all beautiful the colorful galaxies,., and they are not such,... Coz they have to sell/survive their business, by keeping the interest in astronomy intact of other people so that the govt. can do funding to the NASA for more researches,,. And that's why many a times, almost every 3 months the same news hit that we found other 20 more earth like planets,.. and very soon in by 2050 we will be having alien interaction,.. yada yada,..
In recent movie gravity, the space debris is shown coming at a terrific speed from opposite direction,. Etc,.. which was wrong and had many comments on those, that if everything is rotating in the same plane, that can never be possible of that speed striking of debris. Movie Avatar also had many such Balonies,
I would say we would have our first voyage to the next star system in the next 80-100 years.
I doubt,.. still we can not find our plane that we have lost at 34k height, also NO man has yet gone to Mars or Venus in human body, which are just close neighbor planets of the earth,. ! lol.
Einstein to make him proven wrong is not that easy task,. As so far he has remained the most intelli. Person, ever had walked on the face of the earth. His all theories and inventions had that one funda. thing that " nthg in this universe can travel faster than the light,..."
The best we can do in the future is,.. whichever the particle, can travel at the highest speed, can tie in some sound/waves/ voice data signals with it, knocking at the door of other planets, letting them in acknowledgement of our existence.
And, even if you travel at the speed of the light, it may not be enuff,. As you know,. Most of the stars we see in the sky,.. are just rays of the lights and nthg left is behind,.. since,.. on its back, is already a dead/supernoved star which outlived its life so many thousands of years ago,. And still that ray of light emitted from it, at that time, is in it's journey which makes an impression that,..and that's what we are watching and thinking it, as a star, but in fact its still a ray of light, on its motion-journey half the way,... n' behind it, the star had already dead millions years ago !
I have seen almost all space-science movies starting from "2001 space odyssey" and many many TED lectures and YT videos in tons by Stephen Hawkins,. Etc.
