Anurag Kashyap's Ugly starring Ronit Roy, Surveen Chawla and Rahul Bhat which was fighting a long battle for release will finally see the light of day. And director Anurag seems to be extremely excited about his latest film. " We are all very confident about the film.
It's unapologetically dark and brutal but it's very emotional.
And it's good that it's coming out now as Gone Girl had just released and it showed that it can work and nobody called Gone Girl a dark film which was about marriage and emotions, likewise Ugly is about kidnapping and relationships," Anurag says.
Anurag recently said in an interview that he now wants to work with Shah Rukh Khan. However, historically Anurag's films have been quite different from SRK's. So will he be able to blend the two diverse cinematic existences? " I don't know but for me my favourite Shah Rukh Khan films in the last ten years were Chak De! India and Swades where he is not doing what one expects from him. We have spoken so many times about making a film. May be he doesn't have that much of confidence now, may be he'll have it later.
My thing is that I can't make a film playing or catering to his image, because a film is always made with trust. But that doesn't change my love and respect for him, that doesn't change his opinion of me.
But we will come on a meeting point, so let's not rush it.
Right now he is busy with so many films like Raees and Fan, even I am waiting in the queue for him," Anurag adds.
So when you used the word confidence' does that mean in terms of subject or your style of filmmaking? " Confidence in the subject as well as in the way I make my films. I want to work with a lot of people. If I get an opportunity to work with them, that doesn't mean that I will completely change my working style because that I can't change.
When I look at all the films made in the past, I loved Lage Raho Munna Bhai, as in my opinion it's the best written film. But if I had to make it, then I wouldn't have been able to make it the way it's actually made which is very effective. So I know what I can do well and what I can't. Things should be done with complete conviction.
I'll have stories, so I'll k e e p bouncing.
And one day when he likes something and he'll say that I want to work in this one, then it will happen," Anurag says
