Heart wrenching letter. Could identify with each and everything she said. We are all getting advanced technologically, modern minded as people would say, high class, hep, worshipping goddesses and putting religion on the highest pedestal but till today despite all the advancement and whatsoever happening,we as women still live in fear of such a basic thing such as security.

All the talks ,the female centric movies, the marches, the candlelight vigils, well all these sound great ,screaming headlines in newspapers, trending topics in twitter and facebook, all the rage and furor lasts for a day or two or say even a week and then it becomes yesterday's news to a reader,to a person who goes online to check 'what's new' but to that person,it becomes a part of them, wanting to scream out in the sheer injustice being meted out to them for NO FAULT of theirs,a memory that burns.

Something needs to be done and something to be done Now. As she said, take an example of one guy, give him a stringent punishment and another will think twice before even having such inhuman thoughts. Kudos to Shehnaz for writing this letter and respect. Hope a response is got through actions rather than the usual articles/speeches etc.

Btw anybody know the stats/average of rape incidents in Western society and Saudi Arab/Gulf Arab ??

Sexual pleasure is different from intimacy. You can gain physical gratification without love. Masturbation, po*nography, erotic literature, strip clubs, prostitution, one night stands, hookup apps and sites are all varying means of humans to get sexual pleasure without love. The only difference most people understand the importance of consent. The problem with eve teasing and harassment in India is that many men don't understand the concept of consent. There are various reasons for it - sexual repression not allowing healthy sexual expression, lack of proper gender socialization, patriarchal view that women are property and created for male pleasure, the need to be dominant and in control and sometimes pure psychopathic and sociopathic tendencies.

May be we can ignore her ULTERIOR MOTIVES in writing this letter and pay attention to the REALITY of what she has said...

At first I rolled my eyes "another open letter". I'm glad I gave it a read before dismissing it. It was all very relatable. I was in 4th standard when a man cornered me in the pretext of asking an address and groped me. From 5th to 7th, I had a college guy stalking me. I was afraid to go to school alone. I always made sure I was with friends. When I was in Jr. College and traveling by bus, me and my female friends had all sorts of safety precautions to prevent being groped. Digging high heels into the foot of people, asking our male friends to form a protective circle around us. When I was a teen and didn't know better, it was my shame. It was an embarrassment. it was what happens if you are a girl. It was something you kept hushed and under wraps. It was shameful to bring it up openly. Older and wiser, I know much better now. I am really glad that women are speaking up on the issues and taking a stand.

I recently read a white bloggers post in light of Ferguson and Staten Island. She said "Not all white people are racists, but all white people benefit from white privilege". That is why it is important for white people to understand race issues and be actively involved in them, because it is necessary for white people to change their attitudes if we are to make any genuine progress for civil rights. Similarly "Not all Indian men are rapists or molesters, but all Indian men benefit from Indian cultural patriarchy". That is why it is important for Indian men to understand women's issues, it is necessary for all Indian men to change their attitudes if we want to make any genuine progress for women's equality.

Can we just forget about about the movie and for once concentrate on the CONTENT. Whatever she has written is so realistic and i applaud her courage to take a stand. As a junta we always has a habit of having doubts on people's action. Suppose even if its for movie which i m sure not still she has spoken and rightly said about the real issue. I loved her tagline on shame. Awesome👏

For any good act timing should not be questioned. Also Delhi Uber rape case happened few days back and she had written the letter in that context

I find blaming all men in this open letter unjustified.I can't talk about the whole country but judging the environment I stay in, I feel there is a lot of anger in men too against the rapists but somehow not just men but everybody has just given up. India had never seen a protest like the one that happened during the Nirbhaya incident but what was the result? Was the accused given a harsh punishment? We have seen so many protests but still there's some problem cropping up every time.Even if we protest for harsher punishment like castration, there will be hindrance by human rights groups and the laws written in the constitution. And even if laws are changed, there is always a fear of power being misused, the very reason even euthanasia is not legal in the country. There are so many angles that one needs to see before changing a law that I honestly feel, we have reached a stage where we are a hopeless nation when it comes to safety of women.
Earlier people would ask girls to stay home to be safe, nowadays even your own house is not safe thanks to creepy tuition teachers and pedophiles.

I have immense respect for women, much more than men but sorry, I don't see any solution to the problem of safety of women. We just have to live the way we are living now.Even a pepper spray cannot guarantee safety in a country like India.
