@Shaan85 physiological response is different from the emotional one. Many rape victims experience orgasm even though they are traumatized by the experience. Victim orgasm was often used as an excuse to claim rape was consensual. That mind frame is slowly changing as evidence shows that the body often reacts involuntarily. Some men experience erections and ejaculation during a prostate exam because the prostate is an erogenous zone. The body can achieve orgasm given the right stimulation irrespective of whether the person is engaging in a consensual sexual experience or not.

Rape is not a purely human trait. Dolphins are known to gang rape both male and female victims. Recently, seals have been discovered raping penguins. Many animals do engage in forced sexual activity. We humans just have a more evolved society that has norms set for wooing, courtship, physical contact etc.

With rape statistics you have to consider two things

- how many rapes are actually reported
- how the country defines rape

India has many social and legal systems that prevent rape reporting or very narrowly defined rape definitions for example marital rape is not recognized in India.

Steubenville was a tried and convicted rape case in USA. In India no girl would dare admit that she got drunk underage and was passed out leading to rape. If she did she would be questioned, mocked and blamed for drinking and partying with boys. The cops would also not file a charge because there was no penile penetration. Cops would also encourage an out of court settlement because good boys with promising futures should not go to jail as rapists.

Leaving aside her motive if she has any ( which i don't think is true ). Her letter relates to the very real incidents which happen daily in India in bus, college and on the road . A lot of us including me can relate to these incidents as we ourselves have gone through exactly he same things described by her in the letter and still so many girls have to go through these horrendous things everyday 😡
Nothing has changed and i have very little hope of things changing but she has gained a lot of respect and admiration from me by openly discussing it .

I find blaming all men in this open letter unjustified.

I don't think the intention is to blame everyone as perpetrators. See my post earlier about racists vs. benefactors of privilege. The situation of men in India is similar. Being part of the dominant and/or majority group in any society means that social structures rest upon you.

Sometimes those kind of 'public touchings' can be purely unintentional/accidental also upon which they too might have to bear the brunt of the biasness against man..
On a train journey , I , under influence of doziness , accidently crashed on a woman twice..But thankfully she din't turn out to be Rohtak girl or Shehnaz though may be (I m guessing) she too have thought the same thing about me ..So..not every stare or touch implies only 1 thing ; it can b purely unintentional/accidental also..Otoh on couple of occasions , I have been subjected to indecent acts by some , probably nymphos..Though in such cases , atleast man doesn't have any direct threat..
In fact , when I was a kid and used to look like girl (like long & curly hair , fair & soft look) , I recieved lots of creepy proposals from many naughty boys next door .. And actually I too have experienced such kind of insecurity as a kid when I was physically weak...Though they never went any further like using force etc..
I think any sane girl can understand the intention- they have instincts, you can tell how some one is looking at you.

Girls can understand the nature of touch even as a kid...SO if its unintentional then most likely it would be completely understood

And then there are many instances of false rapes also..Remember Badaun sisters 'alleged gangrape' ?
Now plz don't consider me anti-women/something like that..Just supplementing to get potrayed a complete picture..Let law do its investigation..Sooner or later , culprits will go through hell..They can't escape..

yar more than the actual punishment- there should be FEAR of punishment so that no sick bas***d dares to do it..that is totally lacking and to implement that this death penalty law has to be established, I don't see any other way for it
