-Q. Tell us something about the music of Kill Dil.
Ranveer-The album is not a pop album where people listen to the songs and forget it within a couple of weeks. We have the kind of songs which are integral to the story and songs are made with the context of the film. Bol Beliya is one song which is my favourite as it plays a significant role in taking the story forward. Kill Dil is a listener's album and it will make you feel good whenever you listen to it.
Q. Were you upset that you didn't get to dance with Govinda in Bol Beliya?
Ranveer-To be honest yes I was really very pissed off. I am a kind of guy who can't stand still at any moment leave alone a rock song. I have been a Govinda fan since a childhood and what people would have expected from this film is a typical Govinda-Ranveer dance number but we don't have a dance number. But I guess that is one of the plus point as it proves there is nothing shown just for the sake of it. The story does not require me to dance with Govinda so we have not shown it. Nothing in Kill Dil happens for the sake of it, even the action in Kill Dil has a reason. It is completely different from other action films where you connect with the character and you stay with character throughout. Film is a fast paced film which is edgy. Kill Dil will keep you entertained throughout the film and it is a fat free entertainment
Q. What was your first reaction after watch Kill Dil on the big screen?
Ranveer-I was emotional, very emotional. This is a dream come true as Shaad Ali directed the film which is produced by Yash Raj Film and I got a chance to work with Govinda. I was mind blown by the performances of the cast especially Govinda. I can give you 50 reasons why you should watch Kill Dil and let me tell you, there are 49 reasons to watch Kill Dil on one side and there is Govinda on the other. With Kill Dil Govinda is back in a big way. He is a powerhouse of talent and the expressions he brings along with him its fantastic. He is playing the villain for the second time and I feel Govinda never thinks he is playing a negative role. He never thinks that he is doing anything wrong so yes he is right and when you watch him on screen you feel like watching a hero. Govinda is the biggest asset of the film and I wish he does more films now. He is a master class and there is one scene of Govinda which is a 8 minute monolog which will go down the history of Bollywood to teach the students about acting. He shot that scene in just one take and it will be taken as an example in acting classes. His performance is everything you would hope for it to be in his comeback film.
Q. As a Fan how much time did you spend with Govinda on the sets?
Ranveer-I just used to sit besides Govinda and listen to what he used to say. The kind of shit he has gone to, the dirty game play in Bollywood, the mistakes that he has done everything. He is a great gun in everything he has achieved. He is the most talented actor we have had in Bollywood. He dances, emotes, laughs and he is a completely gifted actor. I don't love all his films but I love him in all the films. There is never a day where Govinda does not work hard
.Q. Lootera, Gunday, Ram Leela, Dil Dhadakne Do and Bajirao Mastani - you have kept on experimenting with your look. Don't you feel scared trying out so many things in the early days of your career?
Ranveer-Not at all. I love actors who lay emphases on characterization. There are many actors who act the same way in all the films and I love them too but I have a little more respect for people who don't shy away from experimenting. I want people to say I can't believe this is the same Ranveer who played the role in Lootera. Like in Bajirao Mastani I have having a new look, a new voice, a new body language. This is one of the film where I will be doing a very heavy characterization. On other hand there is a Zoya Akhtar film where I don't have to do any characterization. In that I play a 2014 guy who is super cool just like what I am currently. Vidya Balan told me after watching Ram Leela that she could not believe it was Ranveer playing the role of Ram. A film works mainly because of characterization. This role is completely different from Gunday where I played a tough guy
.Q. Don't you think your performance in Lootera is a bit under rated?
Ranveer-Whenever I watch my performances I feel I could have done better. So I don't consider myself under rated infact I consider myself a bit over rated. If you ask me my best performance ever I would say it is Band Baja Baraat as it was one of the most pure character I have played so far. I know the kind of acting I did in Band Baja Baarat is never going to come back to it is just a magic for me which is completely liberated from all technical things in acting. Coming to Lootera I feel yes Lootera is a under rated films. I would rate Lootera as one of my better film and it got a lot of critical acclaim too when it released. I won't say that I deserved awards for the film but I feel Lootera was a technically brilliant film. The sound designer, director, art director everyone was fantastic. It was a technically superior film. I feel it could have got a many more awards in the technical department. As time will pass, people will realize the value of Lootera more. Lootera is a film which will make you cry even if you watch it 10 years down the line.
Q. You have always wanted to work with Govinda and it finally happened with Kill Dil, so is there any other actor you want to work with?
Ranveer-Amitabh Bachchan. He is a super cool guy and I have had a privileged of working with Mr Anil Kapoor, I have worked with Govinda so yes I would love to work with Amitabh Bachchan. There are a lot of actors I want to work with but if you tell me to name one actor it has to be Amitabh Bachchan.Q. Your role in Kill Dil seems to be at ease and very different from all your other films and you being known to be a method actor seem to be enjoying the space, so could you tell us something about this?Ranveer-It depends from film to film. There is a film like Kill Dil where there are many similarities and many differences so I have to work a bit on the character. Then there is a Dil Dhadakne Do where I don't have to do anything as there are a lot of similarities. I play an urban guy who has studied abroad and likes to chill. In Bajirao Mastani I have heavy characterization where I have to lock myself in the room to get into the character. So Kill Dil is not as heavy as Bajirao and not as light as Dil Dhadakne Do
.Q. When do you start shooting for Bajirao Mastani?
Ranveer- Soon, very soon. Infact I have a one day break post the release of Kill Dil and bang on we start shooting for Bajirao Mastani. Back to being a Maratha Warrior.
