Tabu basks in Haider's glow

Mumbai: The critical acclaim she's received for Haider is reason enough for Tabu to smile. It has proven once again, why she is considered among the most gifted actresses in Bollywood.
While actresses like Vidya Balan and Parineeti Chopra have been lauded of late, for not succumbing to the size-zero trend and choosing to focus on their roles, Tabu followed this practice years ago.
"That wasn't a tough choice," the actress says. "There was nothing except acting that I knew. I was never the fashionista nor was I famous for having a super-toned body. I think actresses today have succeeded in striking a balance between looks and work. I have to confess that I never had style, hence I was never a trendsetter!"
The actress says it's unfair to draw comparisons between actresses who've worked in two different decades in B-town. "What we did back then, the current generation can't do it and vice versa. Amongst the current lot, I do like Vidya," Tabu says.
And while she basks in the post-Haider accolades, she is quick to add that she's never been in a "mad rush" to take up more films. "I'd rather chill at home than give in to mediocrity," she asserts, before wondering aloud if filmmakers are also reluctant to approach her because of her reputation of being extremely choosy about work.
"But yes, for me to give away a large chunk of dates (to a project), I need to have a valid reason. I have to feel motivated. Filmmakers are aware of the kind of cinema I've always wanted to be associated with. I think Vishal Bhardwaj knew that I'd never turn down Haider. He was confident and his confidence reflects in my work. A well-written role like that does justice to an actor's expertise on screen," Tabu shares.
"For a long time now I've been working in different industries, and newer directors. Probably that's why I now want to work with filmmakers I share a certain equation with," she adds.
