Saw the movie few hours ago and had huge expectations from it. But thoroughly disappointed with the ending. Anyhow, here is my review:
Ratings: 3/5
Haider is inspired by Shakespere's Hamlet which is the story of a prince whose father died and he can see his ghost. His father's ghost tells him who murdered him. Haider is also more or less like that only. Haider's father goes missing, he searches for him only to find the shocking truth about his mom and uncle. The story was going fine, until the militants and kashmir issue was added to it and was handled badly. The issue is not described properly, its not tackled properly... Nothing is explained and everything between army, police and militants seem haywire. The movie is too long and gets boring towards the. So and so that you tend to forget the purpose of entire film. Had the film been summarized and concluded within 2 hours, it would have won a national award. But what goes on for 45 more minutes beyond 2 hours is like a killing spree...everyone is getting killed with any reason or no reason. Finally after 45 minutes the movie ends, but we are still left hanging to know the exact truth about a lot of characters and incidences!
Too many people get killed all the time, without any sense, explaination or background. It just makes the film more depressing, especially towards the end. Even though such films are considered more artistic, but somehow i think killings in Gangs of Wasseypur seems more sensible and organized. Killings here seem random, added only to bring out that artistic value in movie. But sadly, it just stops making any sense.
Shradha Kapoor as usual, barely has any role in this entire movie. Rather, Tabu has a very strong character as well as role. She is one of the actors who keep you hooked onto even the most depressing parts. Her acting is commendable, and even Shahid has done a fabulous job in terms of acting. But honestly, the characters of the story were not defined well enough to understand the exact situation, on top of that no background as such was given. Further, the character of Haider loses its appeal towards the end. His actions doesn't make sense! Just because he found out that his uncle got his father killed, why would he wanna join militants? There are incidences like this that really confuses you as a viewer.
All in all, it is an okayish type of movie with great actors but not so great script. Core issues are left undefined and unsolved. They should not have blended Kashmir mililtant issue with story of Hamlet, coz it just doesnt blend in with the script. Shraddha was also average in the movie, but she had no major scene, though she looked pretty. I would give it a 3/5 stars bcoz of some great actors and their performances
You can watch it for first 2 hours and den leave the hall and enjoy your dinner 😆
