Does Alia have it in her to give Deepika a run for her money? - Page 4

Again I am not taking anything away from Deepika. She deserves all the praises she gets these days...she had a super amazing year last year. She worked really hard and has improved so much. I am just saying it's not fair to compare Deepika to someone who just started. But if you are going to compare, Alia's first 4 performances surpass Deepika's first four performances by faaar!

Ranbir had a HUGE buzz around him. He was a much bigger star than Randeep is now. Saawariya was a flop but people still knew who Ranbir was. Most people still don't know Randeep. So yes, Deepika's had a "better" opportunity for a second movie than Alia did. Yet Alia still came out with flying colors.

Alia is doing well and her film choices are better than Parineeti and Shraddha. As a star I noticed she is also more popular than them with the youth.


Alia's plus points are her age and the KJO and Mahesh Bhatt backing. She does have people who will make films for her. Deepika can't afford to give too many flops anymore but at this stage Alia can. Alia's minus point is the baby face. Its hard to visualize her playing a seductress or a mature woman or in any intense character yet.

I know people like to flaunt outsider tag, but DP had no disadvantages of being one. She herself said Farah offered the role without even an audition. Debut with SRK, second movie was YRF one with lots of buzz, third movie with Akki who was giving the biggest hits at that time and then with Imtiaz right after JWM. She hardly had any trouble getting good offers despite not proving as strong performer. Then she made bad choices and gave 6 flops in two years before Cocktail.

Alia has had good opportunities too, but difference is that she has managed to create a bigger impact with those so far.

^^ Exactly. Deepika had all the opportunities in the world from the start. It just took her time to find her feet.

I don't think Deepika had better opportunities than Alia in her initial years. Deepika did itsy bitsy 10 minute roles in most of her earlier films :- Bachna Ae Haseeno, Chandni Chowk, Housefull, Khele Hum Jeen Jaan se. She had lesser scenes than the supporting characters.


Films opposite big stars does not strengthen position but good screen characters do. Asin would have been a superstar by now if only big films and established co-stars mattered. Cocktail came at the right time for Deepika.. saved her from fading into oblivion. Cocktail was directed by 1 film old Homi. Saif had a major flop Agent Vinod the same year. That Veronica character worked big time for her she was praised by audience and critics. Heavyweight directors dont matter as much as the roles. Alia had KJO as her director in SOTY but the best reviews she got from 2 States.


3 out of 4 films Alia did are produced by Karan Johar. So far in her entire career Deepika did only 1 Karan Johar produced film (YJHD). People can bash KJO as much as they want to but KJO films have good characters for the actresses and best marketing strategies to sell a movie. Even a flop KJO film Kurbaan had a fantastically written character for Kareena.


Any actress new or established would love to play Alia's characters in Highway, 2 States and Humpty Sharma. The association with KJO benefited Alia's career.. there is no denying she did complete justice to those roles. In terms of performances Alia did better in her first 3 years than Deepika no doubt but she also have better backing and better opportunites than Deepika in terms of characters to portray. Not just Deepika, Alia's filmography (first 3 years) is better than Priyanka, Katrina and Kareena's initial years also. Kareena had films like Yaaden, MDK and Priyanka was doing films opposite Akshay. Alia's immediate competition Shraddha also have a weaker filmography than Alia's. (If we are only comparing the starting years).

She didn't. She got Highway thanks to Ranbir Kapoor actually. Imtiaz never saw SOTY.
