I used to foolishly believe actors had a message or they were trying to educate the crowd when they preached "respect women", but lately I have started to pay attention to actions more than words and it's quite interesting.

Do you think actors only preach to respect women?!

Actors, like some people in general, don't practice what they preach. I think it's somewhat just human nature.

Really. They should think through their actions then because these actions have long term consequences.

In a world where Salman and Abhi hug and Salman and Vivek avoid each other, I cannot believe any celeb is sincere. Their alliances change with the wind. But in a world where they live and they have people trying to get favors from them, I guess I understand.
That is why I take with not just a huge pinch of salt, but a mountain of salt even when a celeb I like supports a cause or says anything. There is something in it for them. Even the great humanitarian/actress Angelina Jolie did so to change her image from a brother kissing/blood wearing/homewrecker to humanitarian extraordinaire. I may sound heartless for saying that, but her image changed overnight.

I am very cynical about people's motives in general. More so of actors who depend on people liking them for a living, even the ones I like.

Don't their mangled personal lives show what they really are?
In my eyes all famous people are facade. It is rare, rare of the rarest to have someone genuine.

Really?

She is publicly outspoken about the issues. Last week itself she was part of the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in London. She changed in 2001. She was a homewreaker in 2003-2004.

I don't think anything like that can be faked for that long. 13 years is a long time to do something when you just wanted to change your image.

This is an article by the NYTimes, one of America's most respected papers, if not the most. It was written in 2008. If you can't see it google 'new york times angelina jolie image'. The title of the article is called Angelina Jolie's carefully orchestrated image. IMO, she did it to change her image, she herself has changed, she uses her celeb for good. But it helps her image immensely to be this humanitarian vs what she was before.
