Because if men started doing sexy item numbers, they will lose their superior position over women. Bollywood is the reflection of societal misogyny. Men cannot see themselves in the position of sex objects, like women are in item numbers. Fear of being treated the same by audience (male or female) like they treat women. About bloody time is correct. I wouldn't mind item numbers as much if men also started doing them. This is why I really like that Dreamum Wakepum song from Aiyya. That song treated both the man and woman in a similar fashion. Both sexually objectified.
