To go from a TV actor on Doordarshan to have a fortune that competes with Hollywood actors takes a kind of ambition, arrogance and work ethic few have. To have achieved that with no film background, average looks and talent takes a very unique person.

I can't imagine any new actor making any of these statements today. Making even 1/10 as egoistic statements as SRK's were back then will guarantee atleast 50 pages of bashing for the poor actor now on IF. 😆

This statement sums up SRK's rise and massive success to me. People try to complicate his stardom. Its actually very simple. Just like the stock market, SRK saw the market changing before anyone else did. He saw the multiplexes rising, the overseas markets opening and catered exclusively to them with fairy tale love-stories when his contemporaries were busy doing Masala catering to the interior.

It has nothing to do with hard-work and ambition. Many people have that. It had to do with intuition, luck and intelligence and it paid off massively for SRK, YRF and Dharma who were all struggling in the era of RK Santoshi, David Dhawan & Subash Ghai.
