The very mention of Nitish Bharadwaj conjures up the image of BR Chopra's serial Mahabharat of the eighties where the actor, in his role of Lord Krishna, captured the nation's imagination. The role made such an impact on people that even today whenever he plays the role of Lord Krishna in Hindi plays; people flock to see him perform.

The good news is that Nitish will be seen in Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Mohenjo Daro'. According to Nitish, Ashutosh called him to Bhuj and narrated him the role of Durjan, an indigo farmer. "I liked the role instantly and decided to accept the offer,'' the actor was quoted as saying. Nitish also feels happy that he was finally offered a role that had nothing to do with Krishna. Nitish feels that as long as he was playing the role of Lord Krishna, he was exploring divine emotions, now his new role in 'Mohenjo Daro' has given him an opportunity to explore human ones.

In 'Mohenjo Daro', Nitish plays the role of Durjan, an indigo farmer, who brings up an orphan boy called Sarman (Hrithik). Durjan doesn't let Sarman in on certain secrets which he feels can unhinge him.

Nitish had to work hard to get into the skin of the character. Like having an idea about how did people greet each other during that time. "We had no idea about the language people of that era used. So Ashutosh took certain words from Sindhi language. There are words like 'Thora' which means thank you and 'Lakh lakh thorak' which means thanks a ton,'' says Nitish, who admits that mastering the nuances of the language was a big task.

When told that the costumes in the movie have evoked adverse reaction, the actor says that the director decided to give freedom to his costume and jewellery designers to come out with something which will befit a period. "It is really fatuous to expect authenticity in these matters when you don't really have any idea about that particular period. The director has to be a little imaginative when dealing with period drama,'' says Nitish.
