These are busy times for Sonakshi Sinha. After voicing a character in the animated film Rio 2, Sona has been juggling her dates for films like Tevar, Action Jackson and Holiday " all of which she is very excited about. She's also been fending off rumours of a link-up with her R...Rajkumar co-star Shahid Kapoor, and makes no bones about the fact that she's quite annoyed with the speculation.
"It's like I can't move about without people connecting me to him," she says, plaintively. "I can't remember the last time I met Shahid or spoke to him. Sometimes I feel like if I've stepped out of my house, the next day reports will say that I went out to meet him! It's all very annoying." She even rubbishes the rumours about Shahid having inspired her to work at getting into shape in earnest.
"I always do things for myself, not for anybody else. I always wanted to lose weight and look fit. I did try my best to follow a regime. But due to my back-to-back shooting schedule, I couldn't stick to it. I'd make excuses. Now I don't do that. I religiously work out, no matter how tired I am. I'd give credit for that to no one but myself," she says.
Fortunately, Sona says, the people who matter " her family " are not bothered by these link-up rumours. "They're used to it. My family knows me and if anything like this were going on, they'd be the first to find out. So they don't react to all this," she says.
Since talk of link-ups, real or alleged, exasperates her, we move on to the other young actor in her life: Co-star Arjun Kapoor, with whom she is teaming up for the first time ever, in Tevar.
"Actually Arjun and I were in the same school, as were Rhea and Sonam (Kapoor)," Sona tells us. "I knew him then as their cousin, but we were never really friends. So now, we've tried to get to know each other. I think Arjun is a really good actor. He has the reputation of being reserved, but he's always very cordial with everyone. Maybe he isn't over-friendly, but he is very chilled out and what I respect about him is his professionalism. He never took undue advantage of the fact that Tevar is from his father's production house."
Apart from Arjun, her upcoming releases will also see Sona work with an actor she has turned out some hit films with: Akshay Kumar. She says the best thing about working with him is the comfort level they share " and the fact that they're both extremely punctual in reporting to the sets! As for other sperstars she might like to work with (we name Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan), Sona merely laughs and replies, "You should ask them about it!"
Moving away from films, and back to Sona's busy schedule, we wonder if she has been accompanying her father (veteran superstar and politician Shatrughan Sinha) on the poll campaign trail during the ongoing general elections. Sona replies in the negative, and adds, "I have nothing to do with politics. Dad doesn't need me there. He has his own standing and fan following and he can win elections so he doesn't need any outside force to help. As a family member, I will always support him, but my job is to act and not join politics."
