Thursday, April 24, 2014 is a big day for Mumbai as the city goes to vote in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. However Bollywood has come under heavy criticism for flying out of the country for the Indian International Film Awards (IIFA) being held over the weekend at Tampa Bay, Florida. Most people have questioned the responsibility and attitude of film stars who while exhorting people to vote, are themselves away from the country on D-day.But there have been several socially conscious stars who turned up to vote early. Among them was Aamir Khan who was immediately accosted by journalists after he cast his vote. When asked about his colleagues going to IIFA in Florida on election day Aamir seemed surprised. "Have they left for IIFA?" he questioned. "I don't know about it." Whether Aamir genuinely was genuinely unaware of the awards taking place in the US or whether he was just being cheeky is something we will never know! But the activist-actor gave a strong reason for why he voted. "My coming out to vote is my duty as an Indian," he told reporters.
