Like Dev Anand, whose real name was Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand, Ranveer Singh also dropped his sur name to enter Bollywood. While many know that Ranveer Singh's real surname is Bhavnani, he shares why he chose to drop it from his screen name.

When asked, the actor revealed, "It's too long, too many syllables. Ranveer 'Singh' is short, crisp and can stay in your memory easily. Ran-veer-Singh-Bhav-nani is too long. It's not a saleable commodity."

When asked why he added 'Singh' in particular, he added, "Dadaji is Sikh so that's how 'Singh' came."

If Dada is Sikh. Why is Ranveer known as a Sindhi?

There are two sides to every coin. Just like USA has its wealthy neighborhoods and the ghettoes, the urban cities and rolling Midwestern farms - India too is a diverse nation where you will find wealth, prosperity, education and all the makings of a western country as well as poverty, hunger, crime, disease and all the makings of a desperate third world nation. But you have to be in India, see India, experience India to truly appreciate the whole package that India has to offer. Anyone who has visited India knows that you cannot simply define the whole country by a few stray perceptions.

PS: Try being "INDIAN". It really doesn't matter which part of India you descend from or what community you belong to.

True. Looked up Sindh. It just means a native or inhabitat of Sindh.

Are there no Sikhs in Sindh?

This topic has to do with India and Bollywood.

A lot of people get an idea of India through Bollywood which is exported around the world. Sad but true.

You really need to stop referring to whatever or whoever it is to form opinions about India.
With all due respect , the post made me laugh. You need to upscale your source regarding India.
No hard feelings though.

Yeah well that's why I posted this. For opinions about India from people who actually live there.

I think, he said grandfather & the writer made it Dada-ji. Just a few days back I read his mother is Sikh. That means, his nana-ji was Sikh; not dada-ji.

You can't generalize India based off what you hear and see in the media/films/TV.

My family is from Gujrat and the town I lived in when I was there was so safe. I guess credit goes to Modi for making it a dry state and setting up a curfew and making sure that people follow the rules.

On the other hand, when I was in Mumbai wore a sun dress at Juhu Beach along sunset time and I got a lot of cat calls and degrading looks. Thank god my brother and father were there and it was a public place but I wouldn't go out at night unless I was accompanied by someone b/c A) I don't know the area and B) a lot of the illerate men do look at you like a piece of meat.

But see other places lke Goa or Shimla...I didn't have that issue. So it's wrong to make generalizations and live ot stereotypes b/c that hurts more than help the problem.

It's like how my cousins thought girls in the US walk around in bras and bikinis all day b/c they saw Baywatch once. 🤣 We clearly don't.

I have lived in India all my life, and I don't plan to leave India either. So let me tell you, if you really confuse movies with reality, it only shows your lack of good sense.
Also, every nation has their good/bad phases.Yes, there are lots of bad stuff out there. Horrible stuff. But there are also some good stuff. India, in my opinion is going through a transitional phase which makes everything worse. But because India is poor or undereducated, your decision to forsake India is sad.
I am one of those who hates 'Mera Bharat Mahan' theatrics. But even I can tell you that come to India first. It is a beautiful, huge country with a strange essence to it. Unless you have experienced it, you won't understand anything.

Edit- For a good news, Supreme Court has finally recognised transgenders as the third sex today. Historical win for us. Rejoice.
