Unlike the previous seasons of Koffee With Karan, this season has hopelessly failed to create a buzz. While Akshay's solo and Aamir's debut appearance was expected to rock the headlines, for months what we got instead was two yawn worthy episodes. Let's take a look at 5 factors which have made Koffee With Karan a flop show this year.
Film Promotions: The show, which has now become more of a platform for celebrities to come and promote their films is no different than any other reality show. While we would have loved a random and crazy guest list like Nargis and Freida, what we usually get is a boring movie jodis who play too safe on the couch. The talk about their film and their chemistry is something we are least interested in.
No SRK: It came as a shock to many when they realised Salman Khan was to appear on the first episode of this season instead of SRK. Shah Rukh and Karan Johar's iconic friendship has been talk of the town for over a decade now, so when Salman braced the Koffee couch instead of Shah Rukh Khan, it must have jolted many fans. To add to the fire, Aamir Khan was invited next. Shah Rukh who has always been among the top guests for Karan's show was sorely missed. And with just two more episodes slotted for this season, we wonder if all is well between SRK and K Jo?
No novelty: Koffee With Karan has become a tried and tested formula for Bollywood celebs to promote themselves and their upcoming films. The celebrities don't fall prey to Karan Johar's twisted questions on their love life and controversies like previous seasons. No matter how hard Karan tries, these celebrities never spill the beans on their alleged love lives or cat fights. More often than not, these celebrities leave Karan Johar speechless and gasping for a better response. Questions about 100 crore film and Katrina's acting ability are as predictable and boring as Karan's couch.
The gay factor: The show has become more of a sex talk show, where Karan Johar miserably fails to hide his obsession for gay and lesbian relationships. While questions like 'at gun point if you were asked to hook up with' have become really monotonous, K Jo's giggling after every answer makes it even more annoying. Questions like 'have you hooked up in a public place' and 'casual sex' seem like the only way to bring back the lost glory of the rapid fire round. The double meaning jokes which K Jo keeps cracking in between are so not required. Karan Johar looks like a broken record who keeps asking the same set of questions revolving around sex lives. We request Karan to shake himself and bring out the best at least now!
I don't want to get into trouble: If someone like Sonam or Deepika says, 'I don't want to get into trouble' we totally understand, but when celebs like Shahid and Sonakshi say the same, it gets really difficult to digest. If being boring enough in their previous appearances was not enough, many celebs have played the diplomacy card once again this season and left us dozing through their rapid fire round. Lack of candid revelations and modesty totally ruins what is expected to be the most exciting and fun segment of the show. These celebs refrain from bitc*** or speaking ill of their contemporaries and their thanda performance spoils it all. Now with only two episodes left, we hope Alia- Parineeti and Sunny Leone bring the much desired spark to the rapid fire round.
