Business Down Slightly In First Quarter

The first quarter has seen business a little down compared with the corresponding period last year. The cumulative business between Jan-Mar 2013 was 515 crore nett from 45 releases while this year it is heading for 510 crore from 44 releases.

The 510 crore takes into account the expected final business of Dishkiyaaon, Oh Teri and Youngistan while also taking into the bit of business left for Queen and Ragini MMS 2. The final figure could eventually be a bit higher than 510 crore but it will not change the scenario that there has been no growth in the first three months.

The second quarter could see another fall as there does not seem to be any film that can do the 175 crore nett business that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani racked up last May and May is a very quiet month as far as Hindi releases go. It is not of the question that the first six months will see 50 crore less business than the same period last year and coupled with the fact that last year only saw 10% growth it seems like the growth (if any) will be at much more lower levels than the 2010-2012 period.
