Once you stop measuring a film's merit by Box Office Collections you'll see that Madhuri couldn't have had a better come back than Dedh Ishqiya. Anyone who's interested in performance would say that the film exploited the best of Madhuri. Most of the script/performance oriented films earn a fraction of what imbecilic films of 100-200-300 crore clubs do.

Lmao ppl are comparing Sridevi's EV to Madhuri's films! Yes EV was good and quite relevant whereas Nach Le had nothing good in it except MD's dances! In Dedha Ishqiya MD is getting critical acclaim but the movie is high on Urdu which doesn't appeal to the youth (& ppl)that much! Sadly ppl really don't appreciate 40+ actresses that much... look at Karishma,is she getting any movie offers now or after English Vinglish, where is Sridevi? All I can see her is appearing with her papa & daughters. There are very few good roles written for these mature actresses simply because they are not commercially viable.

I think Sridevi does get offers, but like she mentioned, she is EXTREMELY picky and would have to be moved by a script in order to sign on the dotted line.

I've heard about 2-3 rumored projects including Mr.India2 that she doesn't seem interested to sign. I don't mind that, I wouldn't want her to comeback like Tabu in Jai Ho, in some stupid movie with no role.

The film has great critical appeal & it has been lauded.

I bet she'll be nominated. She acted so well!

Hadnt her career already jinxed? Her 2007 starrer Aaja Nachle flopped big time. She dared to make a second comeback, which again didn't do wonders. This only shows that she's out of sight and out of memory!

I am not being biased, but I honestly feel that Juhi's going to overshadow her in Gulaab Gang. That's what everyone's saying on YouTube and other social forums (as evident from their comments on the trailer video). She can keep banking on Gulaab Gang. The reality, however, would be completely different - although, I wish her all the very best.

Many of the comments seem to be about how Madhuri's comeback didn't turn out to be as successful as Sridevi as she isn't as huge as Sri.
Really?
If you compare Madhuri's hits with Sridevi's of that time, they were much bigger than Sridevi's with Madhuri overshadowing her co-stars. Also MADHURI WAS MUCH BIGGER STAR THAN SRI EVER WAS AND IT'S STILL THE SAME. (However, she is now definitely not as big as she was in 90s) In fact, Madhuri ranks 7th or 8th among actresses in the Forbes list of the last two year.
Someone said that Sridevi is known as female Rajinikanth. I don't know from where they bring such terms. I have never heard anything like that.
Did Sri's EV set the box office on fire? Was it 100 crore hit? Did it open big?
Forget all this, did anyone even talked about it before its release like Aaja Nachle which was said to be the MOST TALKED ABOUT COMEBACK EVER.
EV worked because it was a great film and had bigger appeal that can be enjoyed by family audience.

Has she got any film after EV? No, because it didn't work because of her star power and there aren't many who want to sign her.

As for Dedh Ishqiya, it's a very niche film and it's not even for all multiplex audience. And surely not a family film.

Besides, there are many great films with huge stars that didn't work like Swades, Black, Guzaarish, Lootera etc. And they were more family friendly than DI.

So, it would be wrong to blame Madhuri for the failure of DI, if that's the case.

Sridevi vs Madhuri comparison again, sorry but Madhuri's fan following speaks for itself, have a glance at her twitter/fb fan following and compare it to Sridevi's. And who says audience doesn't want her back? As said earlier Di has been received well by critics and a certain section of the sensible audience.

actresses above 40 doesnt get chance
to play lead roles in commercial cinema
they dont have other options than playing
strong character lead roles in offbeat films only
the chances of offbeat cinema clicking is very low.
english vinglish didnt look too heavy from promos
it looked like a sweet optimistic film not artsy too offbeat.

I'm assuming most of the people have not even seen the movie especially shaitan-Haitian who has commented in a bunch of threads saying she's playing a prostitute in it. She plays a begum, widow of a nawab. There are no prostitutes in dedh Ishqiya. And do you understand actors play roles. They are not a prostitute if they play one I don't understand why people are so hateful. If you don't like a certain actor then don't watch their movies. It's so funny seeing the comments that Madhuri should just go back, she's finished etc. such mind sets are why actresses are tossed aside after a certain age. At least Madhuri is doing interesting roles in really good films unlike roles that the younger actresses are doing, and why should an actor stop working if they are no longer young or at the peak of their popularity. There are other roles in Bollywood other than that if the girlfriend of the hero. We need talented actors like madhuri, Kajol, sridevi and the likes to continue acting so we have a wide variety of actresses playing different roles. God knows mos of today's actresses like Katrina will not even get any roles when she's in her forties even if she wants because any sex appeal she has will be long gone and there is no acting talent. in conclusion, good actors should keep working and not worry about being number one and the underperformance of films like dedh Ishqiya is a failure of the Indian audience, not the film makers or actors.

very very well said👍🏼
