Bollywood stars who came crashing down in 2013

Ajay Devgn was soaring high recently with 100 crore hits like Golmaal 4, Bol Bachchan and Singham. But in 2013, his acting career came crashing down with both his film releases flopping at box office. Himmatwala which was touted to be a big hit by the director of the film Sajid Khan himself turned out to be a huge disaster. Also, his social drama, Satyagraha, which was a multi-starrer did not do too well either.
Akshay Kumar got over the disappoints of 2012 with a critically appreciated film like Special 26. But all of that was undone with two big flops to his name - the much-awaited Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara and Boss. OUATIMD, the sequel to the critically acclaimed hit Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, would have probably fared better had it released alongside Chennai Express, but the decision to push the film forward by a week turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes of the year. However, as a film too OUATIMD turned out to be a damp squib. Boss couldn't help recover his fortunes either and ended up as a box office failure. With quite a few interesting films like Gabbar and Holiday lined up for release in 2014, except the superstar to make a strong comeback - like he always has!
Imran Khan had a disaster year in 2013 with three of his films sinking without a trace at the box office. He started the year with a below average grosser like Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. But what damaged his reputation was Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara. He looked terribly misplaced and miscast in the film. Towards the end of the year, Dharma Productions' Gori Tere Pyaar Mein was supposed to help him regain his reputation but that film turned out to be one of the biggest disasters of the year.
Kareena Kapoor Khan who was riding high just two years ago having worked with all the three Khans, had a downer of a year in 2013. Her two films Satyagraha and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein both under-performed massively. Even though her acting was mildly liked in Satyagraha, the film flopped and her awkward kiss with Ajay Devgn was one of the worst screen moments of 2013. Gori Tere yaar Mein could have made it all better but the public showed no interest in turning up to watch this romantic comedy.
Sanjay Dutt suffered setbacks after setbacks in 2013 both professionally and personally. He had three film releases in 2013 - Zila Ghaziabad, Zanjeer and Policegiri. All of three films set new levels in being poor films and their box office performances reflected the quality of those films. Unfortunately what hit him the hardest in 2013 was being re-imprisoned once again for a 20 year old case.
Sunny Deol had two releases in 2013 and one aborted release. The sequel to the funny Yamla Pagla Deewana arrived a week after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and opened decently in North India. Sadly, the makers couldn't duplicate the humour of the previous film and the film flopped. Sunny Deol then tried his hand once again at a Gadar-esque film called Singh Sahab The Great. Sadly, neither the story nor the direction could do his screen presence any favour and the film sank after a decent weekend.

Critical acclaim for her performance in Lootera wasn't good enough. All films except R.. Rajkumar failed.
Cut to January 1 2013. Sonakshi Sinha was supposed to be the lucky charm of filmmakers. But now a year later all that has changed. With the exception of the hit R.. Rajkumar, all of the films she appeared in 2013 flopped. Even though she impressed the critics with her performance as Pakhi in Lootera, the film did not do too well. Her next two ventures Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara and Bullett Raja also flopped. The audience is tired of seeing her play the same character in film after film. Maybe it's time for some reinvention in 2014 for Shotgun Junior!
