R... Rajkumar Review - Truth in Advertising...GANDI BAAT Dec 6, 2013
2.0/5
Verdict - The movie is outstanding as you just want to sit/stand it out

What do you say about a movie that makes you homesick about the other Crown Prince..as in David Dhawan's RAJA BABU..those were misogynistic days yes, but we knew the jokes (and the jokers) were on screen and not on us.

Here we have a movie which makes stalking, refering to women as candy you may like to give some tongue action to, scenes that have men behaving badly with women , as the "guaranteed" side order...something that WILL come up as a certain when you sign up for the main fare,. This is what I found disturbing...sexual violence is not something that the film builds up to as something foreboding, it becomes part of the scenery.."What should my character be doing while the other two in the scene are having a conversation, or when Im crossing the scene/and or stage" " Meh, just force yourself on some female".

So what do you say about a terrible film like this?

What do you say about a movie that has Sonakshi Sinha typecast again as the women who continues to rush where much more foolish people fear to tread. once more making gooey eyes at the Young Turk who just happens to be the Don's henchman and then quicjkly throwing herself in the path (or pool of water in this case) of the most evil prson in the Tri (Northern Indian) State Area. Akshaye Kumar earlier Sonu Sood now. What do you say about a seriously disturbed set up as this?

What do you say about a film that reads masculinty wrong, forget about having positive articulations of being male today...what do you say about a film that has you itching to run and get the film maker and senior actors to sit down for a gender awareness training so they dont warp more minds throught their problematic dialogues.

What do you say about a woman who is suppposed to be the bright spark adopting causes and the "little person", who is forever speaking for Truth and giving it back to the problematic characters who plague her day...and but when she falls in love is passive, sulking in a corner , waiting for death or The Real Love to rescue her? What do you say about a young woman who will will look on morosely, never raising her hand to help the alleged "love of her life" only promising the villain that she will use her hands to disrobe herself , offering herself as the sacirificial virgin if he is The Man Who Will Relnquish the Other.

What do you say about a film that has Sood and Shahid Kapoor, being their brilliant selves, only that it is in a film that is a turd? Sood and Kapoor have terrific timing, they get the sliminess right...but you are so busy feelig sad about What A Good Boy Like Sood (and Kapoor) Is Doing In An Unsavoury Production like this and also fearing what is next if certain directors and film makers dont wake up and sign them up (Indira Kumar and Territory Masti?) that you never get around to relaxing in your seat and watch Shahid and Sood have some fun with their role.

what would I say?

In the words of the film.

GANDI BAAT!

R...Rajkumar Movie Review: Predictable and boring action thriller

2/5

What if a same dish is served to you every day? You might love it in the beginning, like it for some more days, and finally get bored of it. Every alternate week Bollwood filmmakers are serving audience with the same mundane no-brainer action films, and this week's release R...Rajkumar is another entrant to the list. It has the same action, romance, plot which you have seen 100 times before in other films.

The biggest reason why R...Rajkumar is a big disappointment is that there is no surprise element in the film. One could easily predict the entire plot of the film. But director Pradbhu Dheva can't be blamed for this let down. He made a similar film with Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore) and earned over Rs. 100 crore.

Like Parbhu Dheva's other Bollywood films, this one too has a South Indian touch. Past paced scenes, quirky item numbers and a hero who could beat just anybody. The story is set in a black drop of a village where two drugs mafia are battling it out to become the sole king of the business in their area. Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor), who works for one of the mafias, has so much power that he could beat 100 goons at one time. However, he and the mafia he works for fall in love with the niece of the other mafia.

Other disappointment of the film is its comedy. The director has tried very hard to make audience laugh, but failed badly. The unconvincing, many a time awkward and garbled somedy scenes, are only made to test one's patience.

With a lean body, Shahid Kapoor is looking a bit odd in this role. In some scenes it looks unbelievable that a lean boy is beating up goons who are three times more powerful than him. Shahid can give much better performance that he has given in the film.

Sonakshi Sinha seems to be playing the same character since her debut in Dabangg except for a few films. It's time she should star experiment with her roles otherwise she will become a few films wonder. Sonu Sood has also impressed with his performance. He has become the first choice of most of the film directors for the role of villains.

Music is impressive and will stay in your playlist for a few weeks. Gandi Baat and Sari Ke fall sa have already become favorite of youngsters. On the flip side, too many songs only added to the film's length.

Even if you are big fan of no-brainer action thriller, we would suggest you to watch R...Rajkumar on TV.

If this isn't a hit then it means other than his fans -neutral viewers- nobody is interested in watching him. If people won't be supporting him, his talent, now, then indeed his future is dark. I, as a fan, will agree at last.

R... Rajkumar: all that remains with you is some 'gandi baat'!

When Prabhu Dheva ventured into directing exaggerated action sagas, one wondered on the dancing demigod's diverse choice of genre. Evidently when another dancing sensationShahid Kapoor chooses to venture into the over-the-top action genre, you have your doubts. And while Shahid puts his 'best foot forward' to do some hardcore action, his boyish charm comes against the macho image he wants to put forth. Despite that chances are Shahid could be as commercially successful as Prabhu Dheva. But post that you won't have any novel expectations from him either!

A film like R... Rajkumar works merely on gimmicks. And to join these gimmicks, a story is devised and put into place. So you have the same heroine, same villain, same villain sidekicks, same director, same action director, same stunt scenes, same locations and same singer clubbed together as if it were a popular combo (masala) meal. The only element not same is the hero - Shahid Kapoor. Though he earnestly attempts to be a Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar prototype, he isn't as effortless. And that's not the only mismatch here - there's also the lead pair. Thankfully they have self-realization of the fact that Shahid is too short and Sonakshi is too stout. But you certainly can't handle Shahid's recurring pout.

The hero is the standard stalker sample from South films, who relentlessly pursues the heroine. But the villain lusts for the heroine too. And the hero challenges to single-handedly fight the villain and win back his ladylove.

The only achchi baat about the film is the song 'Gandi Baat'. But the scene where Shahid and Prabhu Dheva share the dance floor is too short-lived and already broadcast on trailers. The other song 'Saree ke fall sa' follows the same tune but you don't mind this recurrence as much as the repetitiveness of the formulaic story. Moreover Shahid's dance, the only saving grace of the film, is expended in the songs of first half itself, while the dancing Shahid is conspicuous by its very absence in the second half - not leaving much reason to look forward into the film after the first half.

Shahid Kapoor gives his heart and soul to the role, though the converse of it is not true. Sonakshi Sinha is a mismatch to Shahid in every aspect and you know why multiple South sirens are employed in item numbers - to match steps and keep pace with Shahid. Sonu Sood has a menacing presence. Ashish Vidyarthi goes topless more number of times than Shahid Kapoor and Sonu Sood put together - and it clearly isn't a pleasant sight.

At the end of it, all that remains with you is some 'gandi baat'. Quite literally!

Director: Prabhu Dheva
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood
Verdict: Average
