The piano was a gift from Ranbir when they started dating in 2008. I don't know why this story is being circulated again as though it happened recently.

Yes it was a gift. But not in 2008t though, as far as I remember it was just a little while after they had broken up.

^^ No.. it was in 2008 or maybe even earlier. Here is the interview that Ranbir and Deepika did in 2008 where she mentions that Ranbir had gifted her a piano.

Here is the relevant part:

Tell us about the first gifts that you exchanged.
Deepika: He bought me a piano. I haven't started taking lessons yet, as I want to make sure that I have some free time and I also get a nice tutor. I'm really fond of music. During one of our conversations, I had generally mentioned that I would love to learn playing the piano and the guitar. The next thing I know is that a brand new piano is sitting there in my new house.
Ranbir: She bought me a MacBook Air. She buys me clothes and she got me an ultra-cool pair of golden shoes from Bangkok, which she feels looks cool on me. But I'm a little shy to wear them when she is not around.

That's all fine but I still don't understand why this piano-gifting story was refurbished and regurgitated in the media in 2012 as though Ranbir and Deepika has found a renewed connection through a piano. Whose PR would circulate an old story in new clothes? No prizes for guessing, I guess.

Here is a TOI article from 2012 which makes it seem as though Ranbir had gifted her a piano after their break-up.
