By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 16, 2006 - 05:19 IST |
Although, the National Awards ceremony has not yet been held officially, as per sources the Best Actor award might be conferred upon Amitabh Bachchan for his portrayal of a teacher of a deaf, blind and mute girl in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black. Bachchan has earlier won the National Award for Best Actor for his films Saat Hindustani and Agneepath. Sources seem to have learnt about the winners beforehand. The Best Actress award winner is Sarika for her role of a mother affected by communal riots in Parzania, directed by Rahul Dholakia. The same film also has picked up the Best Director Award. Buddhadev Dasgupta's Bengali film Kalpurush was chosen as the Best Film. The National Awards Jury is headed by old time actress, B Saroja Devi. The Awards were supposed to be announced in Delhi on Monday. However, the ceremony has been delayed until further notice. This decision was met with a lot of resentment among the film fraternity. The Awards function will officially take place at a later date. |

Ya Ali' from Gangster, a copy of an Arabic number |
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 16, 2006 - 05:25 IST |
Pritam is in a soup yet again for plagiarism. This time it's for the song 'Ya Ali' from the film Gangster, which apparently is a copy of an originally Arabic number called 'Ya Ghali'. The song 'Ya Ghali' is being composed by a Kuwait based band called GuiTaRa. The band seems to be very upset with the Bollywood composer using their tune without even informing them. The band leader Fahad Shammoh says that they saw the song on TV and it is completely stolen. He says that the credit for the success of 'Ya Ali' goes to 'Ya Ghali' and therefore the profits should be shared with them. Apparently, the music company which owns the rights of the Arabic song is owned by Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia royal family. The Prince is now planning to sue Pritam over the issue and the case is in progress. Pritam however, denies getting "inspiration" from 'Ya Ghali'. He says that he didn't know this song even existed. He says that he was inspired by a Muslim folk song which has been around for centuries. However, Zubeen Garg, the singer of 'Ya Ali' says that he knew about the original song but adds that it's not being completely copied. Zubeen says that sometimes it's the producer's insistence for a particular and the composer has no say in it. |
Bobby Deol and Riteish Deshmukh in Namaste London |
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 16, 2006 - 06:20 IST |
Vipul Shah has started shooting for Namaste London. The film that stars Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Upen Patel, Rishi Kapoor and Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh is one of the most ambitious projects of the director till now. Vipul Shah has apparently roped in Peter Fields, a famous Hollywood DOP to shoot the film. Also, the rest of his crew are famous at international level. Recently, when we caught Vipul's team shooting in London, we were surprised to see Bobby Deol and Riteish Deshmukh on the sets. While Riteish seemed to be dressed in a formal suit and was walking around with Katrina Kaif, Bobby Deol seemed to be just chilling out. Probably, Riteish is doing a cameo in the film. The shoot was happening on the streets on London and everyone seemed very relaxed. Katrina though, was the one who caught our attention. She was dressed in a multi-colored Punjabi dress, wearing colored bead necklaces and a different hairdo. Seems like Katrina will be seen in a whole new avatar in Namaste London. |

She subsequently quit acting after getting married to T-Series honcho, Bhushan Kumar. In all probability, she might be making a Bollywood comeback soon. But this time, not as an actress, but as a director! She is already undergoing training to become a director. She plans to direct a music video for T-Series. Her husband believes that if she proves her talent in this project, he will launch her as a full fledged director. |
Hyderabad police doesn't allow Rakhi to perform
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 16, 2006 - 07:54 IST
Apparently, the organizers did not mention Sawant's name while asking for permission from the police officials. But as soon as the publicity featuring Sawant began, the police put its foot down. They believed that the controversial performer should not be part of the show. They thought her performance could lead to law and order problems. Efforts to obtain permission proved to be futile and Rakhi left the city. However, cops arrived at the scene and refused to let her perform. The show was organized as part of an annual function of a real estate firm. There were about 800 invites. Other performers included Vasundhara Das and Telugu film actresses Sangeetha and Tanu Rai. |
SRK – Karan rift: Karan talks |
By Taran Adarsh, August 16, 2006 - 23:56 IST |
Not all's well between Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. At least that's what the gossip mongers in Mumbai would want us to believe. The [loose] talk doing the rounds of the industry is that SRK and Karan have had a major tiff. Reason: Trouble erupted soon after SRK watched KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA and was upset with Karan for sidelining him in the film. With Abhishek getting interesting sequences and Rani walking away with a meatier role, SRK, the gossip mills swore, was extremely upset with Karan for giving him a raw deal in the film. Karan laughs at the rumors when I broached the topic last evening. "Shah Rukh is very happy with his role and also with the film in totality. He's not upset positively," the film-maker clarifies, "In fact, he's happy that he's got a chance to play a role that's not stereotype. And also a role that he hadn't essayed earlier. Not just SRK, each member of the cast is more than proud of K.A.N.K." But how did these rumors originate in the first place? "A section of the trade is indulging in loose talk. Instead of encouraging a film from the fraternity, they are trying to pull it down by sending rubbish text-messages. I seriously feel I've become a veteran listening to all the muck being spread about my films. The industry wrote off KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM in their initial weeks. It doesn't bother me anymore," Karan hits back. KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA too has had its share of back-biting. "The business of the film should silence the detractors. See, KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is not the usual Karan Johar film. It's raked up a lot of debates and discussions. I knew it all along that it would take time for the film to settle down. It's an unusual film that comes as a jolt when you watch it the first time. It's a reflection of reality, it's not about unreal worlds. And a film like this grows with time," he smiles. |

MINK PRODUCES 'KATHPUTLI', ANNOUNCES 2 MORE By Kaydee - Eye TV India Bureau Tete-a-Tete
Excerpts of her chat: What prompted you to enter film production?
How come you play the lead role too? In fact, I accepted to do the lead role as its writer Pannu and director Sanjay Khanna pressed me to play this role. They convinced me that the role is most suitable and close to my personality. And, I can do justice with it. Did you find any major difference between acting and production? Oh, yes, there is a lot of difference between the two. In production one has to be vigilant about every thing whereas in acting one my just take care of one's role. Our parameters of thinking change. Do you find any change in yourself now? Yes, I am matured now as compared to the past. My outlook about everything has altogether changed, including industry. Ok, what's 'Kathputli' all about?
What follows then? What follows her loss of memory consequent to the mishap creates suspense. Does she regain her memory? Do we find out the cause of the mishap? Does her life become normal? The movie answers these questions. One can know about them only after watching the movie. What are your forthcoming movies? Besides 'Kathputli' I am making a movie named 'Neend'. I have signed Sunny Deol for this comedy. However, I haven't yet chosen its director as well as the other cast. I am also planning one more movie. What are views about item numbers?
