The much awaited
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna finally opened last Friday to a thunderous response at the box office. According to
BoxOfficeIndia, the opening was historic and is a certain hit, and its second Monday will determine if it will be a superhit as the first week contains many holidays.
With the critics, the response was good, but not great. With 39 reviews in as of Monday, the film is currently at a 67% with 32 of the reviews being positive and 7 being negative. That's enough to be labelled as 'Good' (which is from a 60% - 79%), but not great (80% +). As it stands, it is the 3rd best reviewed film of the year, trailing
Rang De Basanti (77%) and
Omkara (68%) but ahead of
Krrish (66%). It should be noted that with
Krrish,
Omkara and
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna so close to each other with their ratings, that a couple more positive reviews for
KANK could put it ahead of
Omkara, but a few negative ones could set it behind
Krrish. For the top reviewed

KANK, click

Shahrukh Khan and
Rani Mukerji had the biggest roles, the critics were varied on who performed the best, with some saying it was
Abhishek Bachchan, others saying it was
Shahrukh Khan and several writing that
Amitabh Bachchan stole the show with his relatively shorter, yet crowd pleasing role. With the actresses, it was mixed yet again, with several reviewers saying that it was Rani Mukerji's best performance till date, while others say she was disappointing. With
Preity Zinta, the only criticism seemed to be that her role was too short.
The other new releases were disappointing. Anthony Kaun Hai? has finished with a 50%, which is below average. Darwaza Bandh Rakho is at a 36%, which is bad, and the Salman Khan - Shilpa Shetty starrer Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar is only at a 25% (all the reviews for this film were negative).
KANK should enjoy an extended run at the box office with no biggies opening in the next couple of weeks. However, it remains doubtful that it can overtake
Krrish as the biggest earner of the year as the repeat value doesn't seem to be that great with
KANK due to its subject matter and excessive length. Be sure to check out this space daily for more updates on
KANK box office as well as for more reviews of the film as they come
