Balaji Motion Pictures' Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara (OUATIMD) released in 1,076 screens and took a 70-80 per cent opening all-India today. The film is running almost house full in many centers and is expected to register 90-100 per cent occupancy by evening.
On the other hand, last week's Chennai Express is still running very strong in most circuits. According to distributors, exhibitors will have to draw up a strategy that includes both film as the weekend looks very profitable.
Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines, Mumbai
The chemistry between Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha is attracting viewers, especially the dialogue, which is catching on. OUATIMD took an opening of 75-80 per cent all-India and 70 per cent in Mumbai. Although yesterday's shows of Chennai Express saw good footfalls, the film's morning shows did not draw a large audiences but things picked up during the afternoon shows. Since it's a long weekend, the audience will opt for both films.
Brijesh Tandon, HK Tandon and Company, Delhi-UP
OUATIMD took an opening of 70 per cent in Delhi-UP. The second show in Ghaziabad are largely house full. In Ghaziabad, OUATIMD has outdone Chennai Express but in Delhi, Chennai Express is still doing fantastic business in multiplexes. I believe both films will do great business as it's a four-day weekend.
Debashish Dey, Aum Moviez, West Bengal
OUATIMD took an unexpectedly fantastic opening. Although the trailer didn't fire the imagination, the film has taken an opening of 70 per cent plus in West Bengal. On the other hand, Chennai Express is running equally strong in most multiplexes. In fact, yesterday's shows of Chennai Express did better than Monday and Tuesday's shows. Exhibitors will see good business over the weekend.
Sarang Chandak, Shri Rang Films, CP
In CP, OUATIMD has taken a great opening. In fact, the morning show in many cinemas was house full as are the noon shows. Although the film has been allotted fewer screens than Chennai Express, it looks like the number of shows of OUATIMD will increase if the film's performance holds steady today.Chennai Express is seeing over 50-per cent occupancy in its first week. This film too will attract good business over the weekend.
Ravi Machhar, Sahyog Films, Nizam
OUATIMD took an opening 90 per cent in Aurangabad. Since today is a national holiday, most people will catch the film today, which sets it up for a strong weekend. Chennai Express is still doing fantastic business. Today's shows drew more footfalls than they did earlier in the week days. Exhibitors will have to decide how to divide the shows of both these films.
Jeetu Khandelwal, Movie Pioneers, Orissa
The first part of OUATIMD was superb and the film took an opening of 60 per cent in Orissa. The film hasn't been allotted many shows today but it will corner more screens tomorrow. The report of the film is also very good. In Orissa, we have mainly single-screens and Chennai Express is still doing historic business. This will be a bumper weekend for exhibitors.
BH Basha, Bahar Enterprises, Mysore
OUATIMD took a 50-per cent opening in Mysore as Chennai Express is still doing record-breaking business here. If word-of-mouth for OUATIMD is positive, its business might grow over the weekend. We need to wait till this evening to see if there is any growth.
