If you thought that action and sci-fi are the only movie genres men can digest, you've got another thing coming!
With Friendship Day looming around the corner, the girls might have a pile of chick flicks a mile long to sink in, but it is time to even the scales a bit. Round up your buddies, dig up some pizza and delve into these bromances that celebrate the simple if unfathomable notion called the male bond:
Dil Chhahta Hai
Think bromance, think Dil Chhahta Hai. With the turn of the century, while the girls were busy cooing over Rahul and Anjali's saga in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the men folk were silently relating with this coming of age tale, which saw Aamir, Saif and Akshaye fall in and out of love, battle angry boyfriends, hysterical girlfriends and time lapses, with their friendship ultimately emerging as the winner!
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
The singularly most important event in a man's life: The bachelor trip. Although not a patch on the Wolfpack's shenanigans, this adventure fuelled road trip passes muster with flying colors. Cheating girlfriends, accidental proposals and abandonment issues all fall to the wayside as Hrithik, Abhay and Farhan renew their inherent bond over bull chases, deep sea diving and scoring girls.
Delhi Belly
And while the ZNMD trio had the comfort of a 1949 Buick convertible to work out their issues in, life ain't that kind to everyone. There exist the underdogs, the small fry who gel with other small fry and end up being the thickest of friends. Cue: Imran, Vir and Kunal, battling the inanities of the fast paced urban life, and who bond over troublesome girlfriends, getting picked on at work and their shared passion for swear words.
3 Idiots
Passionate searches for long lost loves might have been the domain of romantic films, but that was of course before Sharman, Madhavan and Aamir came on the scene. While there is some drama with Kareena Kapoor on the side, it is the leads' bromance that takes centrestage as the trio work their way through ruthless principals, equally ruthless professors and overzealous nerds, all woven together into an unforgettable laughathon that you just can't get enough of in the first go.
Kai Po Che
From Fukrey to Pyar Ka Punchnama, while Bollywood lies in dearth of bromances, it would be impossible to conclude this list without recounting this year's hit Kai Po Che which beautifully explores the camaraderie between Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh, set against the backdrop of cricket and politics. Director Abhishek Kapoor affirms, "I will say Kai Po Che is essentially about the friendship between the three leads, but the story and the backdrop make it a very Indian middle class film. The story at the heart (of 3 Mistakes of my Life) is about bonding, a story that could be cinematically rendered."
