LOL...Anu ...This itself says the Writer has not seen Ranjhaana...or If he has seen..that has not understood...or may be he might be among those ppl..who just wrote the Article to bring some Negative light on Dhanush...coz he is been getting all Positive's from everywhere...

I am confused with the opening lines of the article. When did the critics slam the movie and only praise Dhaush?😕

Haha, this is one of my favourite scenes too, especially when Dhanush keeps on ordering samsoa and chai..😆 and the way he drinks the tea while mixing the leftover in the cup and having the last sip, so natural!

I wonder if this person has even seen the movie to dismiss it in such a one-dimensional condescending manner.

As Swara aptly said in an interview...CONTEXT matters...and Stalking is not the right label in the sense for what transpires b/w Zoya and Kundan in the first half if Zoya was very much aware of his presence and was enjoying it.

Reading this review I'm reminded of one of the best scenes in the movie where so called intellectuals "analyze" why Kundan became a "thief"...this writer has similarly adopted a similar approach in dismissing Dhanush's role and acting in this movie and the movie as a whole.

The people who dismiss this movie as a "stalking" and "wrist-slashing" fest never got the POINT to begin with.

And LMAO when exactly did Kundan try to DROWN Zoya? LOL THAT is the interpretation of the scooter being plunged into the Ganga scene? Wow clearly this person didn't get even an IOTA of the movie *shakes head hopelessly*

totally agree anu...

i bet this person has not got the nerve of the movie..infact has not understood an iota of its characters..

where did the movie glorified stalking...dint they see the gal was inviting him to be stalked ...she was enjoying all this attention...there is this one scene when zoya is curiously looking for kundan...like where has he gone today..and as soon as he comes..she slaps and SMILES...this was kind of flirting thing going on between them

all these critics could see was stalking and wrist slashing..i really feel pity on this person's views...infact when kundan does it the second time...his friend murari mocks about it...

this is just one of those articles which makes me bang my head..those who dont understand the movie why do they make such bold statements...

so wat if dhanush has done such kind of movies in Tamil...i havent seen any of them even though i watch a lot of tamil movies...let the northern part of the country see it..this is just a beginning...he can explore other genre as well...if he began with his comfort genre and aced in it..then i would say it as smart move..not the other way round... i feel raanjhana was the perfect bollywood debut.

and yes no actor would be so selfless to do such roles..to be seen in this manner is not every actor's cup of tea even after winning NA if that is wat the writer is concerned about...

Don't recall him threatening her in Aadukalam to love her. He was frustrated and disappointed, but didn't stalk her over not loving him. And then it was her who approached him later IIRC.

And in Aadukalam, it's much more convincingly presented - initially Tapsee weeps just because Dhanush said he loves her - she's so repelled by him.

Then later, he rose to fame from nothingness, and then she began to get closer to him.

And Dhanush in the film was not from some middle or higher class family with education - he's raised in slums and that reflects in every aspect of his behavior. He even goes so far to beat his mother at times. That character, we are not supposed to like - he's not portrayed as otherwise "nice guy" or very moral person. That's consistent characterization.

Although in crux, that's still true, I don't entirely disagree with you. I don't exactly agree with the parallel with Aadukalam.

I don't entirely agree with the write up, on second thoughts. And yes, it's very flawed presentation etc. But disagree here. This is exactly my issue. Zoya's character supposedly enjoying the stalking - that's romanticizing stalking IMO. That's how I see it anywho.

Anyways, agree to disagree and all that.

Well I agree on Writers Last point...Watching Maryan's Trailer and some of Aaadukalam's and 3 Scenes... Dhanush's Talent has not been Introduced to Bollywood...the Guy is beyong Amazing...

yes, why is no one talking about that

the writer of the movie says..he wanted to showcase that such things (wrist cuttings) happen in small town ...infact they handled it very diligently..where they showed it and also mocked it...

Perhaps true; he saved the movie by allowing himself to be ghettoised, and stereotyped as a dark-skinned ethnically Tamil lumpen who wants to conquer a fair-skinned, beautiful north Indian girl by indulging in persistent acts of harassment that are punishable under Indian law.

I wonder how many domestic and international laws Superman broke in Man of Steel?

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill... take films for what they are, especially Hindi commerical cinema - fictional escapist entertainment.. and stop trying to turn them into social commentaries.. otherwise no film should ever be made.

Sorry to butt in, but interesting.

I have not watched the film yet, nor did I read beyond the first 2-3 lines of this article (I was reminded of a another very negative, very ablist article about Barfi actually) so I didn't see the point.

Stalking has a very negative connotation, as it should. But I always thought that stalking is signified a lot by the girl's reaction to that "attention." ..generally in stalking cases, the girl is very disturbed, unhappy with the attention..she feels scared, helpless, terrorized, etc. That is the unhealthy one.

But if the girl herself loves the attention, craves it...does not feel scared ..then he is not harming her right? ...in which case it can be called wooing...? Or then what is your definition of wooing?

If playing an underdog would make someone successful then i guess every new comer who uses this formula would be successful. But thats not the case, one has to be convincing enough to entice audiences irrespective of the role he plays.
Also Dhanush didnt write the script neither he went to the director for the role. The role was offered to him.

Agreed with the stalking and harassment part. But still the writer seems to be angry at omething, not sure what?
