yes, but thats not what she said. thes a diference between the word "common" and "real". but im sure thats what she meant, poor choice of words on her part. and ot all families support you when u have depression, especially desi people who view it as a temporary state and something you should be abke to "snap" out of once detected.

I too didn't find anything wrong with this quote. I understand what she meant to say. Most of the people in India don't even know what depression is. If some depressed person visits a psychiatrist, they think of them as a mental patient which is a stigma in Indian society. Alia is just stating fact that depression is a genuine/real problem. Its a disease just as cold which can be treated and the person can fully recover unlike aids or cancer.
