Zoya Akhtar, one of the most popular directors and writers in Bollywood, is candid enough to admit that even though she's grown up within the industry, she's always seen it with the vision of an outsider.
"My film Luck by Chance describes the industry for me. Even though Farhan and I grew up in the industry, we were never the filmi kids who spoke about box office numbers. All that mattered to us was whether the film was good or bad, if it was well directed or written well. My mother was in a film school when we were growing up, so we watched a lot of good world cinema. My father is a poet who has different interests, so we met various artistes and ended up being quite bohemian in our personalities. My core group of friends are people from the industry but have come from outside, so I've always been sort of an outsider," she says.
A point that stands out in Zoya's film is that she adds her personal experiences in her movies, be it Talaash or the upcoming Bombay Talkies. She says, "There isn't any story that hasn't been told in some form or the
