MUMBAI: This week saw the release of two new films – R.S Entertainment's 'Nautanki Saala' directed by Rohan Sippy, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Pooja Salvi, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Evelyn Sharma; and Vipul Shah's 'Commando' directed by Dilip Ghosh featuring Vidyut Jamwal, Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Ahlawat.

Both the relatively smaller budget films have taken an average to fair opening at the box office, with 'Commando' scoring marginally higher than 'Nautanki Saala' due to its mass appeal.

The witty rom-com 'Nautanki Saala' has, on day 1, garnered opening collections of approximately Rs 32. 5 million (Rs 3.25 crore) net. The film is fared better in multiplexes of Northern India, perhaps due to Ayushmann Khurrana and his punjabi influence.

On the other hand action thriller 'Commando' found more takers in the massy circuits and single screens. With top performance in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the film's opening collections were in the range of Rs 37.7 million (Rs 3.77 crore) net.

There are mixed reviews for both the films, across the board. Performance on the opening weekend will determine the ability to sustain Week 1...

Interval time at Commando. Amazing action. I hope Vidyut succeeds in BW, we need a real action hero like him.
Just one thing though, I wish they had made the heroine do something other than sitting pretty. When running through jungle chased by goons, the guy doing all the building a hut and stuff so that they can stay at night and the girl sitting there doing nothing is a little strange.

Edit after full movie:
Pros:
Awesome action. Amazing stunts. Romance is kept to bare minimum, which I liked. Just 2 hrs in length, which is another good thing to like.
Although action is the only thing attractive about the movie, for those who love action movies (especially hand to hand combat), the action itself will more than justify the ticket price paid.

Negatives:
Music is not interesting at all. For me, it'd have been better if they had not included any songs (definitely the two songs involving the villain should have been junked). Maybe at the most only that one song to symbolise the duo falling in love could've been kept.
Heroine is inconsequential. Even if they had showed a kid unable to do anything, being purchased by goons and the hero protecting that kid, nothing would've changed and the audience won't have missed anything.

A few inconsistencies as well:
1. The heroine is shown to be from a small town in Punjab (Dalerkot or something). Every woman in that town, including the heroine's sister, wears salwar kameez, but the heroine wears short mid thigh length dresses both inside the house as well as outside. Looked very odd.
2. A person who is sitting inside a stationary car and knows that the villain wants to kill him by hitting the car with a speeding truck, will obviously try to escape. And if the window of that car is open, there is no way someone will not try and die like a sitting duck.
3. A servant is an inconsequential person in the broader scheme of things, especially in this movie. The servant first standing up to the villain, and later on acting as the villain's informer - such polar opposite behaviour in the only two scenes involving him (other than the scene where he gets killed), made no sense.
4. In the present day, people talking about private and important matters over landline telephone (especially one which has a parallel connection as well), makes no sense. Everyone has cell phones nowadays.
5. A guy in politics from a small town like Dalerkot (or whatever it is called), getting support from Central govt. minister is not really believable.
