'It's NOT an item song': Priyanka Chopra
Is it or is it not an 'item number'? With that question uppermost on the public's mind, Ekta Kapoor along with co-producer Sanjay Gupta launched the first song Babli badmaash starring Priyanka Chopra, from the upcoming film Shootout At Wadala. The song was launched with Priyanka Chopra and music composer Anu Malik on Monday.
Priyanka Chopra On Her Costume
I have acted in three remake films of Mr Bachchan and, like anyone else, I am big fan of him. Unfortunately, I couldn't play his role! So it is my ode to him through this song.
Babli badmaash is not an item song: Sanjay Gupta
It is derogatory to call it an 'item song'. It is a guest appearance song, or a special song. We were clear we wanted a special guest appearance song in the film. And we wanted a star like Priyanka Chopra.
Chopra on her experience
I had a good experience while doing the song. It was hectic but fun. We had to finish the song in two days as I had to shoot for Gunday. Working with Ekta and Sanjay was a lot of fun.
Chopra prefers 'guest appearance' over item song
I think the 'item girl' tag is overdone. It is a guest appearance song. Calling it an item song makes it sound a little cheap. I am happy with the way the song has turned out.
Chopra on the recent controversy
I think we should focus on the laws protecting women rather than targeting the film industry, Bollywood songs and films, books etc.
Ekta Kapoor on Priyanka Chopra
We needed a top actress for this song and are happy that Priyanka has lent a fabulous song to the film. She has done a fabulous job. She is a professional actress and I am glad we cast an international star for this song.
Anu Malik On Babli badmaash
Sanjay Gupta wanted a totally different song, which would not have vulgar lines but one with funny lyrics and no sexual innuendo. So I wondered what we should call Priyanka Chopra, what words would describe her, and I came up with 'Babli badmaash'. Sanjay said we should use the words and make them into a song. She has a certain naughtiness and that's why 'badmaash'.
