Swades is one of my all time fav movies... It is one of SRK's best work... Did he deserve a national award for that performance... No...

The award was so pre-decided but someone goofed up and instead of giving for Parineeta said he won it for Hum Tum. Saif, going by original script, thought he had won for Parineeta till a journalist set him right and he got shocked😆 But damage was done

Just because it was SRK's best, it doesnt automatically qualify him for the best actor that year...

That year neither SRK was deserving nor was Saif... Saif just got lucky that year, thanks to Mommy and there was a back lash too...

Over the years, particularly in the National award best actor category most of the performances have been exceptional by the regional actors and the other winners. The performances until now by these mainstream actors does not even come close. IMO

Saif was better in Hum Tum. People think its easy playing the goofy, nutty guy. It's not. Ask any actor and they'll tell you doing comedy is the hardest genre in acting. There's a reason intense actors like Ajay suck at comedy. Nobody could have played that role better than Saif.

There was nothing to Swades. SRK just didn't do his regular melodrama in the film. He underplayed it, but that doesn't mean a National award. It's not that easy.

Regardless, it wasn't SRK's award to lose anyways. Hrithik in Lakshya, AB in Dev and AB jr in Yuva all had lobbyists claiming them the favorites, along with SRK. So it's not like if Saif wouldn't have won it, SRK automatically would have. And we haven't even touched upon regional cinema yet.

And Hum Tum reminds me of AB's NA for Agneepath. Those were the days when regional actors were sweeping the awards but pressure from Congress ensured he got this one (and seriously not deserved especially if you see the movie for which Tilakan should have won).

The whole thing was so botched that Malayalam actor Tilakan was kind of tipped off by that he would be winning only to wake up to hear about AB's win. Ashok Kumar, the head of jury could not tell openly but used to bat any questions off saying the whole thing was a secret , indicating a lot of politics went on behind the scene

but but between Saif for hum tum and SRK for Swades, SRK deserved it more na. if it the award was given to someone form bollywood then SRK was more worthy...unless there were others better than him...i don't remember many other movies.

but im more than glad regional movies and actors get the deserved attention..otherwise bollywood hogs the limelight all the time anyway (woh bhi commercially, thoda un becharon ko bhi mile kuch unke hardwork ke liye) 😆
