I agree, if we consider logic then the movie was indeed crap BUT in those times it was an unique and the perfect family movie. I dont care about the bad performance of HR, Britsh kids singing Jane Gane Mane (which I really loved even though it was unrealistic).. all my non-desi and Middle-Eastern friends loved this movie! I know someone who has watched it over 10 times because she loved it so much, and she doesn't even understand a word of Hindi.. says a lot how special this movie was right? Even I have seen it over 15 times defo!

well i disagree...my problem with the movies was not the fact tht it had normal or believable characters (which they didnt btw...)

k3g does not pretend to be realistic..with all its song n dance, OTT grandeur, OTT costumes and settings...its saying "yes this is a ridiculous world...but hey, its entertaining"...kjo is smart enough to know that his films are cheesy...but he sells them as fluff and nothing else (exceptions include MNIK and KANK which are his worst works)..apart from tht, .he does not promise u tht his films will be intelligent or realistic...unlike some of the romcoms above which sell fluff and pretend to be all "realistic n meaningful" when actually, they r just as stupid and illogical as the so called "masala cinema" or OTT cinema tht kjo produces...

i dunt agree with the notion of only "realistic" films being deemed as good or worthy of a watch...a film should be entertaining...i dunt really care for realism as long as whts onscreen is enjoyable to watch...a film need not be realistic to be good...

Having said which, yes, normal down to earth characters are refereshing to watch...but not the way they r shown in films ZNMD, AA,BKB or EMAET where the characters go on lavish holidays, rent a beach house and go to japanese spas and nightclubs when we are expected to buy the fact tht these people are supposed to be broke or middle class or surviving on student income...K3G does the same, but it celebrates its dumbness and dosent pretend to be more than harmless fun...and doesnt try to hide under the garb of "Realism"...the only thing kjo promises is song, dance, melodrama, pretty ppl and he delivers tht...he dosent go on proclaiming tht his films are abt real ppl when they r not...the silly films i mentioned however, are promoted as being realistic, when they r just as silly as a karan johar film...

Do dooni chaar was abt normal down to earth ppl with believable problems...so was band baaja baraat,..so was jab we met and english vinglish...THOSE are the films which are about believable people...not vacuous shallow romcoms tht are promoted as realistic cinema, but are filled with logical loopholes and far fetched characters, which is why i call them pretentious...because they pretend to be a real take on life, when infact, they are just as filmy and silly as say, a K3G...

bottom line is: a film should acknowledge and celebrate wht it is...if its silly so be it, if its mad so be it, if its illogical and dumb, so be it, if its realistic and down to earth, so be it...the problem is, most of those romcoms ive mentioned are neither realistic nor down to earth, but are promoted as those for a holier than thou vibe as compared to the masala/cheesy films...

Well...I think I do not think we are in the same page...first of ZNMD them being rich is granted...they do not go of showing they are rich...but the movie is about their personalities..and their little road trip...all the characters in the movie are down to earth...you know you can be rich and go on a trip and be a down to earth...

in EMAET...Imran is rich kid...he went to a spa...So when did going to a spa in vegas contribute to people not being down to earth..or any of the places mentioned. He was one of the most down to earth characters in Dharma productions...the poor guy does not even be a hero in th eend...

All the movies mentioned have rich people ...but they are normal people...with normal difficulties...with personalities and problems...

While guys in K3G are hell bent on proving to you that they are rich...they do not act normal..they are not normal...fine enough they celebrate being dumb and onto the face like you said...but I think the new movies have lot of personalities in them...yes Do dooni chaar is about normal people...so is EMAET and so is ZNMD...and so is IHLS...they are normal people..albiet in different settings and different personalities and different conflicts...they do not go around showing they are rich or middle class...money is not the focus...unlike in K3G we are reminded every constant minute that they are rich by the lavish settings..and close ups..and long shots..and helicophters...and not to the forget the paris hilton type character with her minions...in IHLS Imran does not even give hotel bills...Sonam gives it... I am not saying any of them is completely realistic...but I do not think the money they have is in the face of the viewer...

I do not mind K3G...sure it is dumn and celebrates its dumbness...but I do not think any of the movies you have mentioned are wanna be...they are what they are...and how normal people grown in those settings are...whether it is normal middle class man in Do dooni chaar or a normal rich stock market guy in ZNMD...K3G is the one that has abnormal people and inconsistent characterizations !!!!

kajol was the best thing abt the movie IMO her comic timing, her OTTness ,everything was just perfect 👏 very few actresses could have pulled out that role !! the worst thing was hrithik roshan 🤢 except fiza,KNPH,mission kashmir,JA and to a certain extent guzaarish he has never impressed me in emotional scenes 👎🏼 SRK was repetitve and his character was mix of DDLJ's raj and KKHH's rahul 🥱 no comments on kareena 😵 the bacchan clan were okay !

whatever..maybe rahul but not raj

I heard somewhere this film was in competition with Lagaan for oscars W*F were they smoking 😆

It was kinda unrealistic but it was en vogue for those times .

All of kjos films are a little unrealistic

Also for the person who said ZnMd was realistic is kidding themselves . Abhay just pays for Farhan and Hrithiks trip like he king of England . How is that retable to slums of india . Then they call the slum living People ignorant and mindless when they skip such films 😆 😆
