After the success of 'Kai Po Che', based on Chetan Bhagat's 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life', director Abhishek Kapoor is all set to adapt another book. And this time it is the Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations. His cousin Ekta Kapoor will produce the film.

Set in early Victorian England, the Bildungsroman that charts the journey of Pip, an orphan, was the most autobiographical novel of Dickens, apart from David Copperfield. The novel has long been a favourite among filmmakers. Apart from David Lean's adaptation, that came fifth in a 1999 BFI poll of the top 100 British film, Mike Newell's 2012 film made on the novel has garnered good response in the festival circuit.

A source told TOI: "Gattu likes to write his own films. He believes he can do his best when he is able to create something from scratch. With Chetan's book, he spent more than two years before the final draft was transformed into a movie." However, for this project with Ekta, he was willing to make an exception. A source said: "It was a big challenge to come on a common ground for Gattu and Ekta. They had prolonged discussions before she was convinced that he could pull it off."

If he can make Great Expectations interesting, I'll bow down to him. That book is my cure for insomnia. 😆

If hez taking the story from Novels then how is he making films from SCRATCH???
Hez just polishing somebody elses acclaimed book !
Is he saying - He wrote "3 mistakes of my life" and now "Great Expectations"??? Even if you work to improve it...Its called Value adding...Not writing from scratch...!

As the article says he likes writing his stories himself, even for KPC he changed 50% of the story of the book, but in this case he is willing to make an exception for Ekta and stick to the book. Or that is what I understood.
Am I the only one here who is actually looking forward to this one? 😳

Hahaha which ones? 😆

I had to read Great Expectations in 9th for my English class. First book (at the time) that I never ever finished despite repeated attempts...fell asleep every single time I read it... Sparknotes saved me...& also luckily for me, my teacher was really busy with her personal life that she never read our essays on the book, otherwise my A would have easily become a B, if not lower. 😆
