All the shimmer, but not much sizzle. When Sonakshi Sinha took to the stage for her first live performance on Friday, she left a lot to be desired.

Treating her fans to a performance of her debut item jig, incidentally titled 'Thank God It's Friday', from the forthcoming Himmatwala remake , the Dabangg star made a quick exit immediately after her performance.

Dressed to the T in a retro outfit reminiscent of the one Parveen Babi wore in Shaan's cult hit Pyaar Karne Waale, complete with a thin metal headband and chunky ring, Sonakshi stuck to a few choreographed moves before leaving the stage to the background dancers.

While one expected Sonakshi to dance beyond the scheduled item act, she chose not to. Even a "once more" chant from the crowd didn't inspire Sonakshi to take the stage again.

The evening, hosted at a posh lounge in Bandra for the launch of the song, saw director Sajid Khan playing the DJ as he spun out the beats of 'Thank God...'

He also danced to the track, flaunting some of his locking popping skills.

"I always wanted to present a song to the audience that would remind them of the eighties. People should feel that this song was shot then, removed from cold storage and is being presented to them now," Sajid said.

Sonakshi's item number will appear at the beginning of the film and will reportedly form an important part of the opening sequence.

The actress has done some eighties-style pelvic thrusts and moon walking for the song, choreographed by Chinni Prakash.

Also present at the launch were Himmatwala producers Vashu Bhagnani and Siddharth Roy Kapoor and singer Sunidhi Chauhan.

Himmatwala, starring Ajay Devgn and debutante Tamanaah, is scheduled to release around Holi.
