These films are WORTHLESS for these women...er "girls"...because the parts are worthless because the ONLY...repeat...ONLY worth any of these chicks have is being pretty or hot.
No one writes roles for young women (since lord knows no other kind of women are allowed to EXIST in Bollywood) that require more than that they look pretty and pretend to not want to get involved with the hero...now that the films have all become romcoms about how sexually liberated we are and we only want to screw one another but love is a bore...etc...etc...
Though now and again we do get the "village belle" roles where the girl is required to be little more than pretty and do little more than convince people in the audience that because she is pretty she can inspire love...for now anyway---so better marry someone before that calender date turns over baby, or it's sayonara.
Since substance is not required of these girls why should they strive to attain it? No matter how talented they are they will be cast on the crap pile when they aren't able to pass for 25 anymore and even if they DO manage to find one good script for an acting worman every...oh...say...5 years, how the hell can you build a career on THAT?
The Khans are rapidly descending into joke territory except perhaps Aamir who has shown at least SOME integrity and maturity in his choice of a spouse and NOT based his "love" on how hot she is and how much individuality she's had erased from her face or body in a pathetic attempt to look like whatever the current standard of beauty is.
It's up to the writers and the audience to demand more of these people than this commodification of one type of female at one time of life.
I'm amazed that people wonder why rape is so prevalent, and assaults on women are seen as perfectly ok, when in every other way, from smirking at men marrying more than one woman as if we were little more than effing BOOKENDS, to applauding movies that just drive it home that all you should be is pretty and bedable...you aren't a full human so you don't need a personality AT ALL we shove the message down peoples throats that women are little more than an excuse to make a penis hard and once they can't do that they have NO PURPOSE ON EARTH WHATSOEVER.
When I see something with a message like Shallow Hal come out of Bollywood I'll be amazed and feel that someone has a conscience, but that's probably the one movie Bollywood will never steal from Hollywood because, in that happy little world it's perfectly fine to judge a woman's entire worth on her looks.
When that happens maybe we'll see more roles for talented actresses and more scope for women to hone their acting talent beyond having the latest cosmetic procedure or sleeping with the biggest star.
And then wonder why the message is getting about in society that it's okay to treat women as disposable garbage.
Well DUHHH!
