Bhoothnath returns to revive B R Films

Bhoothnath returns to revive B R FilmsThe founder's grandson Abhay is keen to resurrect the influential banner with a sequel to the Amitabh-SRK starrer

The embattled B R Films, makers of such hits as Burning Train, Waqt and later Mahabharata and Baghban, has been struggling under the twin blows of bad debts and an ailing patriarch, Ravi Chopra, son of B R Chopra.

After banks sold off two of the Chopra bungalows to recover debts, the production house sunk after making the Bachchan-starrer Bhoothnath and later Babul. Four years later, Ravi's son Abhay is prepping to resurrect the banner.

A sequel toBhoothnath is being put together and shooting may start early next year. While Vivek Sharma directed the earlier film, this time, Nitesh Tiwari, who co-directed Salman Khan's Chillar Party, will be wielding the megaphone.

Bhoothnath, a story of a child who befriends a ghost, starred Amitabh Bachchan in the title role. The film may not have enjoyed commercial success, but sources say Bachchan may just agree to reprise his role in the sequel.

A source close to Abhay told us, "The little boy in Bhootnath who played Shah Rukh Khan's son, will be a grown-up man in the sequel. This is a role which Abhay has envisaged for Ranbir. They have been friends since quite some time." But Kapoor's sources did not confirm the developments.

When contacted, Abhay confirmed the revival of the B R Films banner with Bhootnath 2 but refused to divulge details. "I will make an official announcement very soon," he said.

B R Films had been a banner of reckoning till Baghban (2003) released. But after Baabul (2006) hit the theatres, B R's son Ravi ran into huge debts and his health failed. "Since then, it has been a very tough time for Ravi's family. The revival of B R Films is entirely Abhay's idea. Surely, such a creative banner couldn't have remained dormant for long," the source added.

hain ? are they crazy why making a sequel to a film that didn't even enjoy box office success in the first place..

IMO bhoothnath was the bad film, the kid's acting was horrible and so was AB and shahrukh was wasted in a cameo.

saving grace was juhi chawla.

I loved this movie, i think it was a way better kids movie than Koi Mil Gaya or Krisshhh. It's not a bankable film though, it's not for the masses, BR Films ready to shut it's doors?

EDIT: Where is Kal El? I liked something here. ^^ 😆😆

especially when he has to revive his banner and pay off the debts. why doesn't he choose baghban instead. atleast that film was a commercial and critical success.
