Thanks for responses.

I agree music directors seem too busy promoting themselves as singers. But it happened in past also with that Annu Malik trying to sing his own songs (his Dhuan Dhuan song actually did become popular in 1999!) and no singer went out of work.

Today Udit, Vinod Rathod work with even B grade music directors in Bhojpuri films. I can't believe these guys wouldn't work with newer music directors.

It's also shocking that old singers no longer get heard in ad jingles either. Amit Kumar fizzled in 90s but was heard in ad jingles. Kunal Ganjawala has disappeared from both movies and ad circuit. Aisi kya baat hai ki kahin bhi kaam nahi milta inko?

Umm Anu Malik's most famous song was Tan Tanna Tan from Judwaa and Garam Chai KI Pyaali from Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega? Wasn't it?

But yes but that trend started from RD Burman who sung his songs too.

@bold - Yup it's actually showing how Bollywood serves you after working for 15 yrs in B-town, sing for all famous stars and receive multiple awards and yet be ignored by industry one day.

Kumar Sanu sounded really good in Chammak Challo Chel Chabeli. So did Udit Narayan even if it was for 30 seconds in Radha

Yeah those songs were popular and so was Dhuan as a part of his own album. RD Burman also sang a few of his songs, true.

It just baffles how some formerly popular singers don't even get to sing ad jingles! Udit and Alka sometimes sing for TV serials' title songs. Others don't even get that.

Among females singers also I don't understand why squeaky voiced singers are given item songs to sing! Someone like Poornima would've added whole lot of sizzle to a song like Chikni Chameli as opposed to a Shreya Ghoshal (she's not bad but had to try too hard).

Some other popular names are nowadays not even heard singing bhajans. Really puzzling and odd.

I don't see any reason for giving songs to those who do not even suit an actor's persona. Rabbi was fab with Challa but his voice was an absolute misfit for SRK. Some other singer may have sounded much better.

Shaan sang for Aamir in Fanaa and TZP - never suited him at all.

Adnan Sami was a rage few years ago. I don't know if it's he who's cut down his work or it's industry that's not giving him much work!

Some more voices like Anamika, Penaz...just non-existent now. One doesn't even know if these singers are even alive or dead!

I think Uday,Kumar, Alka ,Kavita were favourite of musician like Naddem-Shravan, Aand-Miland, Anu Malik and that era. But now we have new generation of music directors Pritam, Amit Trivedi, Vishal-Shekar who find comfort in working with new talent and different singers.

Sonu once mentioned that these days music directors themselves corner the best songs from an album leaving only mediocre songs for professional singers. With mediocre songs they dont get hits and go out of business.

Kumar Sanu is a throat cancer survivor, I don't think he can sing as much as he wants to..

I'll take any 90s singer over the junkies of today (Atif not included). 😆
