kareena was called the supporting actress if talaash in many articles and rani the main just because she is the wife! how typical. Kareena was the hero of the movie, the accident revolved around her, rani was the supporting one who did not have a direct link with the story

But, Diana got the hero, still they're calling her the supporting actor. 😕

It should be determined by the story itself i.e. who is/are the character(s) whose story is being told. But in reality it's more often about star power than anything else. Also the desi awards system have a hard time accepting more than one protagonist of the same gender.

For example, Hrithik received Best Actor nominations for ZNMD while Farhan and Abhay got Supporting Actor nominations) even though all 3 of them are the (male) protagonists of the story.

In Cocktail, Boman and Dimple are supporting actors. Saif, Deepika and Diana are the central characters. In fact Saif really is more of a supporting actor here while the two women are the main protagonists coz it's actually their story. But a "hero" has to be there (another problem with the desi awards/film system) LOL.

Really 😕I have come across some articles which claimed dpad as supporting one! well i guess ill say exceptions exist but this is the attitude generally, don't you feel?

i mean take PC in aitraaz for example, she was nominated as the supporting actress where as she was clearly the hero of the movie, kareena was the supporting one

Bollywood needs to get the concept of supporting cast straight and it will only happen once actors lower their egos and work in supporting roles and stop confusing it with a side kick (asin, sonakshi kinds of roles) because they are totally different!

Priyanka was the villain (technically also a supporting role here) and got the Filmfare Award for it too.

another misunderstood term

villains can't be main leads? says who? she was the main lead is what my point is precisely, not a supporting actress!

I edited to add that she is technically also a supporting character. Of course villains can be main leads too. Look at SRK in Anjaam for example. But in Aitraaz I'd say she Priyanka and Kareena were supporting roles.
